This is so true! I fall for both of their characters and then stay for the actors. Tom as Loki was my first "bad guy" crush and then I grew to adore Tom as a person. And now Neil as Astarion was the next infatuation. And then I stay for Neil because he's fantastic

I think "what can you do" is way better advice than anything else. Everyone mentions the gym or walking and pretty much neither are an option for me and many others. But I can still do some simple exercises and stretches in my free time! I'm not doing a lot, but I am improving and I'm glad that he recognizes that progress doesn't look the same on different people. He is a sweetheart!

As someone who's suffered with Crohn's disease since I was 21, had several surgeries and generally struggles to function without a lot of pain, let alone reach the unrealistic, harmful body image ideals the media portray, I thank you Uncle Neil for your wise, encouraging words. ❤️

Good gosh, every time I watch Neil I gain more and more love and respect for him. What he's saying is absolutely 100% spot on, and way too many people fool for it, we should always try to look after our bodies to the best of our abilities. Also, to build off of that, I know some people who only exercise and try to be healthy to impress their crush instead of acting like themselves just because they noticed that their crush likes ripped people, and they're pushing themselves over their own limits just to attempt to impress them who could actually cause more damage to them if you think about it, and most of the time they don't get noticed, and social media is the main fuel for that as well as random pictures like Neil said, stuff like that. Fiction in general too makes it worse, especially people in Anime and in some TV Shows, people ALWAYS flock straight to the people with ripped and smooth bodies while the people who are acting like themselves and being happy with themselves get ignored, they could ask their crush out and have absolutely everything that they like in a person apart from the body, and they would say no because of that, BUT, they could have the perfect body and their crush would say yes, so what is that really saying really to people?

What he said about the Instagram model thing is spot on. These people are probably quite athletic to begin with, but when you see them shredded af that's an additional 3 months of twice daily gym sessions for cutting, 6 weeks of ridiculously strict diet. 3 days of starvation and 48 hours of not even drinking water to tighten their skin. Then add great lighting, perfect angle, and manipulation in post. Probably before promptly dropping down dead. There's things about your body you can't change, there's things you can. If you're not happy then focus on what you can change but always keep in mind that when you see actors and models with their shirt off that's 6 months of misery to get them to look like that for one 30 second shot. It's simply not sustainable.

We should also stop seeing our body as something detached from us. As a thing. We are our body. Not something we own but what we are. Staying healthy is really the most important thing. And as he said, do what you can do. Babysteps are better than no steps.

I'm disabled and fat, and ever learning to stop hating my body, and perhaps even learning to like it. This is the real shit! Perfectly summed it up: The way your body LOOKS doesn't matter, you just have to do your best to be healthy- and even if you aren't healthy, for whatever reason, that still doesn't make your body bad. That’s why I love this guy for good reason. And he’s right about walking, since if you have a certain disability, you can at least neither walk or can try to have some mobility in your arms, than you can at least the best we can to do what we can. Also, he’s right about taking 10 to 40 minutes, than taking the subway/tube, taxi or the bus. If you can walk from a certain distance, then your good with keeping it up. It doesn’t have to kill anyone on walking.

Preach it, Neil!!!! I am way overweight. I get an evil joy out of shocking people and doctors with my level of good health. Did these labs get mixed up!? How can your numbers be so good!? How are you so flexible!? You're range of motion is extremely surprising considering your body structure! My favorite is my physical therapist having to give me exercises at an athletic level just to be able to work certain muscle groups that needed attention. Like sorry, my dude. I can't help it if I'm not the complete couch potato I resemble. If I wasn't currently injured, I would go to the gym. I happen to like walking to get places and bike riding. My favorite snacks are health foods. I live my way. Even my adult niblings are surprised that I haven't seemed to age during their entire lives. 20 years and I still look and act the same. Positivity is a mindset. Yes I am injured. Yes I am tired. It is all time management, physical activity, and having fun every day. With a healthy amount of evil laughter thrown in. Mwahahahaha

see what pains me is that the statement "be healthy, look after yourself" is not realistic for many people, especially women. and there are so many factors that come into play when it comes to that. it's sad and infuriating.
