I went to a Continuation High School (which I highly recommend to students), where you can work at your own rate. No timeline on homework or assignments, when you finish it, turn it in, that simple. This sped up my education because I learned at my pace, not with threats and timelines from teachers. I went through 11th grade, and was just short by a several credits at the end of the year, I came back to school for my senior year, and was there for only a month or so, then went home for the remainder of my entire senior year. I only had to come back for the graduation ceremony.

i’m now a freshman in college and it gets so much better. i would wake up at 5:30 am get on a one hour bus ride start school at 7:30 and end at 4 because i went to a performing arts school and not get home till around 5. taking ap classes along with staying up till 1 to do homework was so much. what i learned though was school is important. if you do choose to attend college you get to choose your schedule and what you want to take so in my opinion it was the light at the end of the tunnel for highschool. some classes are pointless but what my ap calc teacher told me last year was the brain had the ability to learn so much and you should push yourself to try and learn new things. so instead of maybe dreading so much look at it in a positive way even if it’s just one thing. i can say this now because i’m done with it but ask me last year when i had senioritis and i would’ve been seeing it differently. good luck!

I’m only an elementary teacher, but my best guess for way you have to be there is for attendance/state funding. Schools will take a hit if their attendance sucks. Again, just a guess off of what I know from elementary level.

it’s your role in society.. I know it’s actual ass cause I graduated in 2017 and I was saying the exact same thing but I honestly think it’s valuable because just because you aren’t learning a new subject every year doesn’t mean that you’re not getting valuable information that will help in your daily life, like not just being able to add or read but to know how to be a functioning member in society and be respectful of those with authority and to be patient and lineup, they’re all useful things to create a well rounded human honestly

my school starts at 8:25 and ends at 3:15 on every day except Wednesdays, our wednesdays we start at 9:35 because we have something called tutorial so you can go in from 8:25-9:35 to get extra help from your teachers go complete missing assignments, and our school ends at 3:05 on wednesdays. we have 5 periods and each period is 75 minutes long. up until your grade 11 year, you have mandatory classes such as math and planning and english but once you hit grade 11 the only classes you need to graduate is math (you dont need math 12) and english, otherwise the rest of your courses are what you need to go into college and whatever career you chose to go into. we need 80 credits to graduate, which most people get by 11th grade and its easy to complete all necessary classes to graduate and you can graduate early.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this shit. At my school I was already taking online classes through-out high school cause I have hella bad anxiety and when I got up to 11th grade I realized I only needed an English class to graduate and fulfill the amount of credits for my high school, so I paid $400 for 12th grade online English then took it over the summer. I graduated a year early and I can truly say it was the best money I ever spent

the useless classes are state requirements, the point of it is to fill up your schedule so that you have a 4 year curriculum. People who graduate early usually take classes that cover 2 or more categories of the state requirement at once. For example in New Jersey if you take a photography class that counts as an art elective and a 21st century life skill elective

Teacher here: Imagine how socially awkward everyone would be if they could just stay at home and learn on their computer. How would you meet anyone? My district has work release for seniors that have almost met credit requirements (so they go in the morning only) so bummer that you don't have that option :)

online gaming really helped me learn how to communicate better and more efficiently, you learn things especially when people are brutally honest to you, and when ykh communicate with older people that have been to school and have lives outside of the game, just the way I work, alot of people are different, alot of my friends that take online school are the funniest and smartest people I know, and also it's not like they dont have past experience interacting with humans.
