I'm very happy you enjoy the videos and like the project. I'm looking forward to the next video too as it will mean I'm past one of the bigger glassing parts of the job!

Very nice build, some thoughtful details. You could consider a "mini boom" like some catamarans use as well. Basically a conventional boom, attached to back of tabernacle, but no vang. I've sailed a few times on a Hansa 303 which has roller reefing around the mast and a super light boom without vang, and that system works surprisingly well. Complete boomless is hard to pull off well.

I really appreciate your comment! It's good to hear of your experience with that type of light boom with no vang and it is something I have considered and will do more so based on your experience. When reaching, because there would need to be two mini booms, I think if the tabernacle ends were mounted one above the other, there would be less of a problem with one hitting the other and less change in effective outhaul tension. Did the Hansa use an outhaul or just use the pole as you would with spinnaker sheets? I also seriously considered a 'Hoyt Boom' which is typically used for a self tacking headsail but I had trouble with that same problem of needing to have two of them and what happens when you are reaching with them. There is also the problem of where to run the furling lines which are quite simple to run directly aft without any kind of boom sweeping through. That's one of the reasons I keep coming back to the two wishbones solution which comes with complications but should be easy to operate. I'm running out of time to get sailing this summer so that's another reason I'm looking at ways to cut some corners. But yes, having owned a few Bermudan rigged yachts, I've never been happy with how a headsail sets when off the wind and improving that is effectively what I'm trying to do, all the while trying to find the balance of simplicity versus efficiency!

@KarlFullerNZ getting the Gooseneck off the mast spar and onto the deck like the IMOCA 60s did?

@@danweyant4909 thanks for the comment. I looked for some images of that. I think I know what you mean but it might not work for me because I want the furling lines to run straight aft so a spar sweeping through that area would foul those lines is my initial take on that.

@KarlFullerNZ well, no. Roller furling but I've sailed a 1965 Woody Brown Manu Iwa catamaran with a rotating wing mast and the gooseneck mounted on the cockpit front combing abouts 2' after of the step. Worked great. Those fly.

coming along nicely! I say try it without the boom. one of the advantages of your setup here is you'll be able to dump power while heading downwind. That could be important if you need to reduce sail area while being pressed downwind, but you'd need to reduce pressure on the sail for that to work, I presume. That's something you cannot do an a bermuidan rig, and I think it's important that the boom design is able to swing all the way round so that can happen.

Thanks for your encouragement! I agree with your comments in that being able to spill wind or reduce sail while under pressure is going to be an advantage. The 'algorithms' put this really interesting (to me) little yacht with it's rig my way yesterday and although it's a single sail, it really shows the potential of this rig. The first video I saw, did not show the sail being poled out and others did. I look forward to viewing all the channels videos to see what I can learn from this existing rig but today, it's lots more glassing, which is making me miss steel or aluminium boat building because you can weld any time of the day and not wait for afternoon falling temperatures so you don't get bubbles.... www.youtube.com/@bahadiregi
