We need more great productions like this, the Licht cycle seems to be underperformed.

I am confused by Stockhausen. I don't find him a difficult composer, more interesting, dramatic, expressive, very very original, intellectual, deeply conceptualist. But not great melodically.
@Bagazille3 жыл бұрын
Its strange, i am an admirer of Bach, Beethoven, Händel etc... but for me Stockhausen is merely noise.... sounds like bad dramatic film music to me... and i treid several pieces i have been recommended... is it just ignorance? Or is this new classic music beyound beauty?
@depauleable3 жыл бұрын
don't worry, it's just ignorance.

To appreciate this style of music, you have to listen to it in a different way. Where as the music of the composers you mentioned has a distinctive way it deals with pitch, duration, textural etc elements, this style of music has a totally different set of protocols governing their them. Of course this can seem very alienating if you're trying to find reference points from the baroque, 1st Viennese school etc. This is understandable but if you want to pursue it, maybe start with a piece of his called Trans. It's orchestral and is probably the most accessible piece he ever wrote. In order to acclimatise to this music, I suggest listening to one piece a couple of times a day for about a week or so. To get into it you have to train your brain not to look for things in the music that it is use to finding, such as traditional melodic, harmonic and rhythmic devices.

I think you have to know musical history to understand this. How towards the end of the 19th century classical 'romantic' music became more and more "hyper". The melodies got more and more captivating and wilder moving towards kitch, the orchestra's got bigger and bigger the rythmes faster and faster, it all became more and more over the top, to a braking point. Classical music couldn't move any further. Schonberg had to come to brake it all down and the other composers moved on from there to a post melodic music that reflected the chaos of society after the world wars and the strange new technological developments in engineering and electronics. But indeed you move towards a radical different musical area where music does not confirm society but is critical of it and you don't do that with nice ear striking melodies. It's not music that suits you but that makes you think, well if it succeeds in getting trough at least.
