I disagree with what Karlous said at the 9:40 mark. Comedians have always been trying to put each other on. Martin was the plug for tons of people. The Wayans made platforms for their family and their peers. Bernie Mac, Monique, Katt Williams, etc.. Even look at what Chappelle is doing today for so many unsung comedians and artists now that he has power & influence in the buisness. Of course, there are selfish people and snakes. But every generation has that. But one of the biggest myths that Black people (especially Black artists) perpetuate about each other is that we don't help each other. We always have. But usually the people that are plugs on the humble aren't always announcing it with a PR/media team.
@shill1444 Жыл бұрын
Good post. Right. This goes all the way back to when Mel Brooks would argue studio execs down about working with Richard Pryor. Comics ALWAYS had to fight for and promote each other. This is simply the way of things.
@Joshua.Infinite Жыл бұрын
Nah it was a lot of hate going on back in the day. Some stars didn’t want people outshining them. So I can agree.
@willjamesjr Жыл бұрын
@@Joshua.Infinite you're going to have haters and blockers in every industry, in every era, in every part of the world. That's part of human nature. I'm not saying there's never been haters with J.O.S.E. energy (Steve Harvey for example). But the idea that Black comedians & entertainers from before didn't help each other is a myth. We've always been the plug on the low for each other way before we started getting fancy titles and more corporate access.
