In the meantime, I've covered Dubai's dangerous "Massage Cards" kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIXceYKXatelnas (it's age-restricted 🔞). Next, see how to find home-style restaurants in Nepal kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6OynaahnbSlatk. तो, आप खाने के बाद क्या करते हैं? (So, what do you do after dinner?) 😂

It is easy to avoid these things , just say ‘ Leave me alone ‘ . I’ve been there alot of times and never felt unsafe. Karl initially expressed interest (to show prices or get info) that is the only reason they were following him because they are just salesmen. And if you buy from them they will leave you.

I'm glad you wrote it, because I was going to. If you are going to go out, and someone offers it to you, just say no, that isn't something I ever do, Thank You, and proceed on. I did that once when someone offered me something and I was polite but made it known it's not my thing. He left, and I went on my way. To tell someone you'll be back or give 100% approval just sets you up for this every time you walk around after that.

Lived in Nepal for a while and encountered this often as I worked in Thamel. All of this is really common however, there are things you can do to keep yourself safe and to have good relationships with the vendors who are there to make an honest living. Basically do not entertain anyone selling things in the street unless it's the little old ladies in the morning selling vegetables, milk, or tea. Secondly, do not go wandering out alone at night. This makes you look like someone who is looking for the illegal activities. Most Nepalis are in their house by sundown so they can make dinner and then go to bed so everyone that's out afterwards is part of the underground scene. Thirdly, if you don't want something don't entertain it by asking questions. Either ignore them and walk away or tell them chaahidaina which means "I don't want." They'll leave you alone and go on their way. There are things like this going on no matter where in the world you travel, but if you know how to keep yourself safe and follow the lead of the local you can enjoy all of the beautiful things that the place your visiting has to offer.

Hey Karl, I am really glad that you came to Nepal. This beautiful nation has very low amount of bad things to offer. The place you went called Thamel is not known for good reasons (you can find various memes about Thamel on the internet too). So I would suggest you visit other districts that are close to Kathmandu like Nuwakot, Sindhupalchok, kavre. These places will allow you to see the Nepal you didn not imagine. These districts are peaceful, full of natural beauty and friendly Nepalese who are willing to meet foreigners and treat them properly and with manners. And these problems that occured with you in Thamel won't bother you anymore! Excited for more Nepalese content!

I've been in Nepal 8 times, so far. The best money changers were the carpet shops! Changing money was a social thing, drinking a cup of tea, during the negotiaton. That changed in the early '90's when you had to show a receipt from the bank when you applied for a trekking permit or visa extention.

yup Nepalese jail are not the jail you want to be in it is much worse then the jails in USA or other western countries. And you are not treated nicely as well. And Nepalese police don't spare the criminal if you have committed crime you are done. But the sad part here is some police officers are corrupt as hell so they will take handsome amount from you to leave you. But it is not a risk to take cause if the person you try to bribe is like not corrupt then you will face another charge as well i am just 17 and dont know much about laws but i would assure you it will not be a fun experience just the pictures of the jail scare me.

There was no such thing in Nepal and Kathmandu when I visited few years ago. Just few people asked tourists if they want weed that was all, no such night clubs none of these massage places. Nepal is a great place and people are very nice and kind. I hang out with local Nepali people and pretty much lived like a Nepali been to their local markets, restaurants and never witnessed any of these stuff. I was asked if I want to have look at the glasses, clothes etc when passing by the shops but they were kind and positive they were never insisting. I was surprised and sad about what I saw in this video. Also the Nepali police I met were extremely friendly and helpful especially the passport policeman were great and they helped me to exchange my local Nepali currency left overs in the airport exchange office before leaving, It was a small amount but they helped me to exchange in a very short time just few minutes before my flight. Nepal is a very beautiful country, it is very clean and beautiful, Kathmandu has airpollution problem due to dust and car fumes so better to visit other cities or towns. Food is great and I never charged more than average. You should visit Nepal if you can.

I mean KTM used to be weed capital and hippy central where weed and hash used to be dispensed by government regulated shops until USA forced our king to make it illegal. Another thing where there's demand there's supply meaning if tourists weren't out there asking the locals for these things they wouldn't be posted up like that. I think if you step out of thamel you would have a different experience.
@NewZman23
@NewZman23 2 жыл бұрын
🙂Exactly. The corrupt US government bribed the corrupt Nepali government with promises of large amounts of dollars (they called it aid) if the young King Birendra made it illegal. Ironical that in many US states it is now legal - but not in Nepal. In my opinion these guys are harmless - just trying to make a living, while the still corrupt Nepali government wastes their time arguing about who will be leader and split the political parties into even smaller factions - it's an old trick - divide and rule ! Better these street traders do this than go out robbing and stealing to survive. I've visited Nepal 9 times since 1982 and I always stayed in Monumental Lodge in Freak St (Jochhen Tol). It's still there today but is now a private residence. I never had a problem with these guys - if you're not interested, just ignore them and walk on. And as you say, step out of Thamel and you will find the true "soul" of Nepal. I hope to return in 2022, but if I want some ganja I will ask my friends in the village - and chances are we will share a Nepali chiya and chillum together - and of course it will cost nothing, but a smile and a friendly "Namaste". Jai Nepal 🙂

I think 14 days of quarantine is mandatory since Dec 18, 2021 due to upsurge in Omnicron variant globally. Covid situation until this day is good with very low daily covid cases. Everything is fully open. As you know, covid situation can change in a short time, just be well informed and prepared to take necessary steps if things get worst.

Go over to Boudha and walk around. Much better experience. No one will bother you there. You literally picked the _only_ place in Nepal where touts will approach you and then make an 'undercover stay safe in Nepal' video. All around the globe we have these kinds of places not only in Kathmandu Nepal. If you don't want any sort of services offered which seems illegal over there simply deny it. Nobody is forcing you to approach their things what they offering! You can't explore the beauty and good offerings of Nepal on your whole life. Everywhere is some blackspots not alone in Thamel. Specially Thamel has drawbacks due to hippies, druggists kinda tourists visiting over there. Spend your beautiful time visiting villages, climbing mountains, learning and understanding cultures in Nepal. Even in Thamel there are lots of unique places where you can spend your quality time with your friends and family too. If you roam around the edges of river definitely you will find sands around you. To get fish you have to dive in it! Enjoy your stay in Nepal and stay safe! Spread positivity Mate!✌️

All places in the world will end up having these things whether its Shangai China (not sure) or Edo Japan or etc. Let's hope that in time with proper good honest governance, we will be able to eradicate these issues. I think most of its cause is the lack of opportunity for honest work. When people just want money, it would make less sense for them to fall to dishonest work if dishonest work ends up being less profitable than an honest work even with a capitalist mindset.

Hi carl. I am Nepali and I am currently living in the USA. My American friend sent this video to me and it really feels bad when people portray my country as something which is partially true. If you go to Thamel in the evening and chat with people looking like you are looking for something more than food or place to rest, they will obviously think you are talking about women and drugs. Its so surprising that that you live in India and still do not think India has similar places like Thamel and maybe more in number. You are intentionally asking people what more kind of massages are available and what do they sell besides cigarettes. I have been in Thamel with tourist and we just go there, eat food and come back. Nobody stops and asks us abt drugs and women. You always get what you look for no matter which country you are in. Try doing the same in India and your country, and please post the video.

You're worried about people selling weed? I normally like your videos but in the scheme of things to worry about... It's legal in Canada and that's probably the most peaceful place I can imagine. Not really worth half a complaint video. --Plus every major city has drug dealers. You can tell you're in a nice city if it's weed. You're lucky they weren't selling something else. It's a credit to the city a foreigner can walk around the dodgy areas and his main concern is weed. Been here two years and this is the first bad press I'm seeing about it honestly.

@@Gino_567 I don't know what a derelict prison is. You're probably a nice guy. I don't mean to be combative. But weed is a native plant here. It literally grows next to the mall, the military bases, on my neighbor's roof... It's nothing to be afraid of. Everyone's ancestors would be in terrible shape if it was a real problem. Most groups here did traditionally prohibit alcohol though. So there's a little context as to why I'm bothering to comment.

@@lineaayo i personally dont have an issue with weed. but it's still illegal in India though right?... and you're suggesting that foreigners shouldn't be afraid to get involved with it while they're visiting. Which may be true for India (as far as i can tell - its pretty lax and you can bribe cops if caught) My point is that giving advice to people that its ok for foreigners that dont know any better and aren't particularly street smart is not a good idea. This is how alot of people get locked up for life in countries that dont share the same sentiments on drugs we do.

@NewZman23

You don't need a tour; you can just travel to places like Daman and the western hill areas to find hillsides of ganja growing wild. And how ironical that it was the corrupt US government who in 1973, bribed the corrupt Nepali government to make cannabis illegal and now it's legal in many US states and still illegal in Nepal. I just hope one day that a progressive Nepali government can see the benefit of legalising and controlling cannabis growing and distribution and thereby providing jobs and income for hundreds of poor Nepalis and also bringing in taxes for the government.
