‘School smart’, or math/logical intelligence, memory capacity, and linguistic intelligence, are only a few kinds of intelligence. There are at least 12 types of intelligence, IMHO, look it up and you will find at least 8 of them. I’m sure you have one of them. IMHO intra-personal intelligence, or self-awareness, is the most important type, yet the most under-appreciated in today’s society.

@Manish Narang I understand what you are saying.... however I am only giving my opinions of what I saw and experienced. Nowhere did I say it was 100% safe, clean or anything. I said I saw beauty, I saw nice people, I saw smiling faces. I said that people who have less than us Americans were still smiling. I said I felt safe. I never said India was the best place ever. Nor did I say that there are no problems in India. Not once did I say I wanted the USA to be like India. Your “facts” can not change how I felt, how I saw India and how I respond to my trip there. I enjoyed my trip. I don’t live there and didn’t experience any of the things you discussed, so how can I form an opinion or make comments on something that didn’t happen to me. I hope that you are able to come to the USA one day. Much aloha.

@Manish Narang Hello Manish, yes I am happy to answer questions to the best of my ability. I am a very open minded person who believes the best in most people and I am usually proven correct. The USA has a very negative thought on India and I experienced an amazing time. I hope that when you come to the USA you also experience an amazing time. There are good and bad people everywhere and every country has issues. Yes women have more “freedoms” here in the USA but there are still many rapes, crimes and murders. Some of the actual statistic per populations are astounding. But those reports don’t always show the experiences of real people living real life or visiting a country. Lots of Aloha (Hawaiian word much like Namaste)

On one particular day in Chennai I was in a, I hate India and all of you can die, extreme mood phase. I said "No" umpteen times to rickshaw drivers that finally I said no to a rickshaw I really needed. Typical thing was their was not a rickshaw available to me after that, as if, and you feel this as well, everybody knows to leave you alone. The plus side of these extreme negative moods in India is the exact opposite where you are so overwhelmed with her, you can cry buckets of shear joy that's sparked by something you can never be prepared for. I had experiences in India in one day that I never had in years of living in the west.

I love the Pahaganj stayed there many times when rooms were 100 rps a day. Back in 96 I walked to the Anoop hotel restaurant on the roof and there was no space to sit except by a young Spanish woman. She was chain smoking and looked stressed. It turned out she arrived four days before and was too frightened to leave the hotel. So I said let's go for a walk and I will show her around. We went everywhere for hours and she was really enjoying it as I was explaining all that was happening to us concerning being approached. Then at one point I hid myself from her watching her every move for about 5 minutes and I could tell she was panicking but she remained as cool as can be. Then I stepped up to her and she threw her arms around me and said thank you. I knew she needed this, cruel to be kind, test. So the next day we met and she said she will do the exact walk alone and if I would wait for her. She came back, her face was so relaxed and that first time India glare in her eyes had vanished.

You have married Indian Girl...you have stayed in India..you have seen the society and culture..you have seen facts....you have even appreciated things therein.... that means you have become Indian....Now still its surprises to see you make such blogs if India safe or not...rather- than...get with India...know them...its country nature...you can not just keep criticizing it all along...as I see your several blogs on critics of india....why not you try to understand it..and make those rather positive...You go to any other country where you do not have freedom of speech and expression..you must appreciate that for India...you are able to make blogs openly..isn't it good? Many country even do not allow to comment on their culture and traditions or living....So my advice is there are lots of topics you can jump on..leave these negativity..and try to enjoy yoru stay...and take those observations as part of life...else...its no sense in watching all time critic blogs....

Greetings from Boston....I have been to India few times and had a great time for the following reasons: being assertive as you correctly pointed out, staying in 5 star hotels , planning out your trip with a guided tour, drinking water from only SEALED bottle, having a mentality of "survival of the fittest" and doesn't hurt to have a "gym physique" ...usually we stay for about 2 weeks but by the end of the trip it can be very exhausting because of the experience of extreme shocking poverty, traffic chaos, noise, pollution, etc and you are glad to be out of the country..scams and attitude usually start at the customs - men in white uniforms in the airport- never friendly or polite, followed by as you are coming out of the airport the smell of leaded gas and humidity hits you hard...on the other hand, amazingly beautiful places in Kerala, Goa, the Indian cuisine, surprisingly the 5 star hotels in India are lot lot better than here in US or in Europe..breathtaking beauty of Taj Mahal will shock you..people in Bombay, Delhi are stylishly dressed ( some women truly very beautiful & look gorgeous in Saris & Indian dresses ), speak good fluent English and time to time you will see chauffeur driven Rolls Royce, Bentley and high end cars...extreme Indeed..you need at least a week to recover after the trip....after a few months, interestingly and mysteriously you will start missing India !!!. Can't explain.

What are the chances of something bad happening? Those same chances are all over the world. It might be slightly higher if you are a foreigner but it's not that bad. India is a very safe country, especially if you look at crime stats vs population.

Sounds like the number one and two things you have to guard yourself from in India is scams and being sexually harassed. Kinda disturbing, especially if you come from a society with more trust. But the land itself is just so interesting that people go anyway. Would definitely recommend guided tours , and if you are a woman travel with a male friend or someone you know can handle themselves in stressful situations at all times it’s worth it if shit hits the fan.

@@More_Row sexual harassment is also an issue in other parts of the world too . I have no reason to defend India but to say every one is pervert is wrong . Yes Indian men who act like that take it to a next level but in the West men are being taught the meaning of consent .. Consent by definition means understanding the willingness of participating parties .. This is coming from someone that think India is not safe for women but it's not as bad as media makes it sound . Sexual harassment however is a very big issue in India but when it Comes to rape it is not as bad as South Africa . Horrible rape associated incidents take place in India but South Africa is something else .

@@201student201 First off when i say the west, I'm mostly thinking of Northwestern Europe (excluding Sweden though, *cough* )-- Australia, New Zealand , Canada and the United states. So yes coming from those places as a woman would be a little frightening as the chance of experiencing sexual harassment would be much higher in India, even for men it's can be scary in India as Karl so well explained.
