Opie was just a guy on the radio doing late nights on Long Island. It was Anthony that got him the attention from the Boston PD. Opie did help move the business along at the start, but by WNEW, Anthony was doing all the heavy lifting. By the SiriusXM days, Opie wasn't really needed on his own show.

Patrice O’Neal is in the middle of telling the most hilarious story and everyone is cracking up. Opie,”Let’s go to Joe in Cincinnati”. Total bit killer who became resentful when Ant and Jimmy’s comedic chemistry suddenly became more interesting than when it was just Ant and himself, and the fact that he started the show and originally brought Ant in probably created a ton of resentment because I believe he wanted to be known as this comedic tour de force but he was never really that great at improvising funny stuff. To me the only few times Opie was ever funny was when he would do insane things out of shock value. Like the time they had that NYC Subway killer on who for some reason was released from prison. The guy wanted to be a musician and he brought a CDR CD of his band’s music in to play over the air. Opie secretly switched the CD’s and started breaking the CD he switched so the Subway killer thought he was breaking his life’s work. Stuff like that was funny, but he just was more of a radio guy and not some superstar on air comedic talent, and I think that probably bothered him. Hey the guy made a ton of loot. But I will say this, you tend to see more people who passed through that show still being friendly with Anthony than you do Opie. Says a lot about a person’s character.
