'KARMA' is a series that depicts the Agraharam way of life of the thirties. Shot in actual location at Konerirajapuram Agraharam situated 22 kms from Kumbakonam.
This is a fictional story that captures the life and times of Somasekara Ganapadigal and his joint family.
How the family disintegrates because of the judgement given by Somasekara Ganapadigal against a priest Sankara Sastrigal forms the crux of the story.

The success of our Indian culture is based on the joint family custom. Because of the invasion of western culture , now a days we are loosing our hold of our values and culture. There are problems in all families whether joint family or nuclear family. Ego and proudness perhaps may be causes. If we want to save our family set up and cultural values, members of family should give up their egos, self proudness, lend ears to other family members, place them selves in other's positions and give boll to others. If we want to save and preserve our culture and traditions we must go to our joint family systems. Otherwise we would be the looser. So end of this play, I want, it would be for to achieve this goal. Seemandhonayanam (seemandham), valaikaapu and poochoottal are all three different rituals. Seemanthonayana is a samnskara, it involves cold bathing, parting the hair with porcupine quills, sewing spindle, karungkali twigs, aththi clusters... whilst reciting udhagashanthi mantra..and veena ganam.

@@ammupaati4171 oh yes.. that is the typical pumsavana seemandham to get a male child.. dropping the herbal juice in the nostril: aalamara ilai + aivirali vithai + (milk), there are variance as well .. some use or add banana stem juice as well. also feeding with a concotion of trikavya (pasum paal, thayir, vennei)

@@ammupaati4171 I mean pumsavana is done for getting male child only. Nowdays no one bothered about pumsavana as most of us considered it as discrimination. And the naasi/mooku pizhithal is a part of pumsavana samnskara only. It is not a seemanthonayana samnskara. Since it becomes time consuming...in later age the non strict groups mixed everything one together. Pumsavana+Seemanthonayana (Seemantham)+Valaikaapu+Poochuttu+Amudhuttal+Neeraattal+Pattusutthu Those days all these rituals were done separately on a specific day. Now everything has been mixed and some have no clue about the different between seemandham and valaikaappu. Garbhadhana done before Nishekam, once conceived pumsavana will be done and then followed by seemantonayana once get a child, jatakarma, namakarana, nishkrama, annaprashana, chudakarma, karnavedh, nowdays, garbadhana samnskaras - kilovuku enna vilai? engey kidaikum? pumsavana - done by few only jatakarma is not done - only punyavacahanam namakarana - done before even the baby born nishkrama - no one cares- no one knows what the hell it is annaprashana - just take cooked mashy rice shove into the baby's mouth.. thats's it chudakarma and karnavedha done on the same day .. to safe time... mottaiadichifying and kaathukuththufying.. many have not done any kaathukuththifying.. when they grown up they will do it themselve for trend..

In brahmin culture both are different. Valaikappu should be performed in the early morning. Preferably before sunrise) seemandam can be performed on the same day wearing madisar having lot of customs performed by the husband. It is also called mookku pizhiyardu.
