You've got it right Rachel. This tradition exists in many communities in Tamil Nadu. People dance and sing at the funeral with traditional Parai drums and even fire-crackers are burst. The songs that are sung during such occasions are Oppari songs, which are an admixture of eulogy and lament. This is done only in the death of an elderly person, as he has lived a fulfilled life and they're sending him off happily. It is believed that the louder and the merrier a funeral is, the more respectful it is to the dead person and their soul feels satisfied.

Hi mam this is the followed by Tamil Nadu people Because in the olden times in the culture people don't celebrate their birthdays they don't know the birthdates also .Because in Tamil Nadu in olden if a man or woman lives they will do something to the society or sacrifice somethings to uplift the people they will live like a legend or like hero . So after HE or SHE passes away the will celebrate their death by dancing and singing about the things they done. This is ritual here in Tamil Nadu making them proud and by telling the future generations about them and to inspire them to do such good things . so in the old Tamil Nadu we celebrate the people death not their birthdays .After westernisation came we changed to celebrating birthdays everyyear . This culture and rituals are going away due to modernisation .we the people showed the world how to live and how to be a die like a hero by serving to the society
