Varities of doses, including Moon dal dose ( pesarittu) has a mention in Chalukyan King Someshwar-lll treatise ' Manasoollaasa' meaning that which makes the mind happy. Chalukyan rulers were Kannada speakers who ruled southern & central India between 6th to 12 centures. They ruled the land between river Kaveri in the South to river Narmada in Central India. 'Manasoollasa' also has references to many southern Indian foods like varities of doses, varities of rice dishes, uppit, rave halwa, idli, varities of vade etc etc which are consumed even today. So Karnataka is the mother of almost all southern Indian cuisine.

I rarely find this in my locality (Bangalore). You must try Pesarattu in Andhra pradesh when you go to places like Vizag, Rajahmundry or even some other west godavari towns like Eluru, Vijayawada, Bheemavaram. Try at roadside hotels.
