I always wondered why gray code was expressed in this order: 00 01 11 ;(not having 11 and 10 reversed) 10 The explanation of the 3 denominational surface made that very clear.

You can only group in 2s, as well as you want to make sure you have the least amount of groups possible. and want to make the groups as large as possible.
