This song has some of the best uses of dissonance Ive ever heard. i really identify with this album now that im going through a hard breakup and divorce. I just hope they still have material for new songs.

@@BornForOsiris Same! I still check youtube periodically for "Karnivool new song" and hope for some new stuff to show up. I can't wait to hear these songs on the album. The really exciting thing is they are working with Forrester Savell again for the new album who produced and engineered both Themata and Sound Awake. Good things are coming! While we wait for new Karnivool, are you familiar with the Ian Kenny's (the lead singer) other band Birds of Tokyo? They are kind of hit and miss for me as their style is more standard pop rock and very different from Karnivool, but I like many of their songs and Ian Kenny is always an amazing singer no matter what he's doing. Their album Brace had a vibe similar to Muse, which I liked a lot. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJzNp6lqmsl5e7M

Like a something off of Bedlam, but with more of a punk Aesthetic. It's less chaotic than anything off of that record, but it's just as intricate.

I also think it's in 17/16 (or alternating between 9/8 and 8/8 instead of two 17/16 bars, same result either way) I believe it's largely dotted 8ths, and that this is the rhythm: e. e. e. e. e. e. e. e. q e e e (dotted eighths, quarters and eighths respectively).

isn't 8/8 just 4/4?

I feel that parts could be said to be in 4/8 and others in 9/8. Its his early 16th note signaling the next measure that really is a throw off that could just suggest the former 4/8. But I heard 9/8 in the breakdown. I also heard a count of 7/8 on the outro.

The time signature can also be viewed as 25/16. Count to 6, and add 1/16 afterwards. The bar ending at 0:40 is 5/4 and from then on it's one bar 25/16 followed by one bar 5/4. Afterwards some combinations with 4/4 also.
@mjktool106910 жыл бұрын
No dude, thats so stupidly complicated and it doesn't have to be. count it in simple 16th notes and you will find it is 17/8.

MJKTool Sure you can, and they are not very different (you can even exchange signatures that use different notes, and here both have 16ths). It's just that the accents will come up in different places.

MJKTool "who benefited from 9/11?" GOOD QUESTION Let's see.............what did the USA get out of "committing 911"? 1) A bad economy. 2) A democratic Iraq that has economic control over its own oil. 3) A never ending war in Afghanistan. 4) A plethora of scientifically moronic 911 twoofers. The thing that puts me of the most is the drumming. Don’t get me wrong, I like progressive drumming (grew up with Bill Brufford, then Neil Peart and now I adore Danny Carey) but what Steve Judd is doing … I don’t get it and I don’t really like it. There are songs where he seems to play a whole other song. Ok for a while, not for a whole song. On Aeons, Sky Machine and Alpha Omega he plays to the song, making it groove al lot more … that’s the Karnivool I like.
