This is goddamnly gorgeous! It's such a shame that I hadn't come to know this composer before. Szymanowski's output during his "impressionist" period consists the chromaticism and profound of late romanticism, blurriness and orchestration techniques from the French impressionist school, as well as his incredible volume, scale, delicacy, and musical complexity. I can't help to say that this piece, along with his Violin Concerto No.1, can be counted as ones of the greatest works ever written in early 20th-century music.

Yes, unfortunately he's not all that well-known these days. I'd encourage you to seek out his 2nd Violin Concerto (it's even better than the first) and for that matter, all his violin music, which was usually written with the aid of his friend, Kochanski. The 2nd Violin Concerto was completed and premiered only a few years before he died. It is an obscure work, hardly anyone plays it really. But I remember when I heard it many years ago, I said to myself "I have to learn that piece if it's the last thing I do." And I did.

I agree 110% my friend. Your first sentence says it all ! Thanking you. Szymanowski was brilliant through all his periods of development.

Szymanowski's two violin concertos - which I believe are the only two concerti he ever wrote for any instrument - are both incredible one-movement works, written with, and for, his friend Pawel Kochanski. The 2nd Violin Concerto recycled a few melodies, in slightly disguised form, from this 3rd Symphony.

you clearly are just a tonal-washed individual with no musical appreciation for complex things past your level. It's okay, you can go back to listening to your River Flows in You garbage now.
