Agreed. This is not the first time I've seen this. I'm a huge fan and have been following her for 3-4 years now and always look forward to Mondays and Thursdays. But she's getting to the point in her career and her development when she should be a little more discerning and intentional on when to do what. These slower songs are slow for a reason, and too much physical movement (spins, kicks, and other moves that I don't know how to describe) doesn't go with the song and feels forced. The same goes for improvisation. I know that musicians are right-brained, creative type people who like to play what they feel and change things to "make it their own" in order to express themselves. But a cover is supposed to be a performance of someone else's original song, and when there's too much changing octaves and melody, eventually the melody is no longer recognizable. When that's overdone, I would argue that she didn't play the song. In her best covers (both fast and slow songs), she has pretty much stuck to the original melody with minimal improv because that's what makes it a great cover. Some of it is her age though. In spite of her incredible talent, we have to remember that she's only 15. When I was her age, I wouldn't have known to think of these things either, and her experience with these old classics isn't the same as it is for older people, so she probably doesn't realize she's doing it, especially since she's only learning to play the melody, not the lyrics.
