The whole "twist" thing and knowing there is a twist ruins the twist is ridiculous. For example, I had heard there was a twist in Old Boy. I did not know what it was and I figured it out about 15 seconds before the reveal and that's the best way to figure out a twist. That movie floored me and horrified me.

The thing with Society of the snow is that it was directed trying to make justice to the real story. It's a very intense movie, but that's because the real situation was just as intense, imagine living your whole life normally and then you're caught in a plane eating people alongside friends and strangers for weeks... the thought got me hooked to the movie and left me thinking about it for days, knowing they were real people and that the events are pretty much 1 on 1 with reality made all the difference, which usually is not the case with other disaster biopic movies

To have a real shot at wining Best International Film, a key sign is multiple nominations in more than one category (like The Zone of Interest, Quiet On The Western Front, etc.). It shows that many members of the academy watched it, that it was popular, that they liked it a lot 👈🏼 All of this means high chances of a win. Come awards night, if it begins winning those tech categories, you’ve got yourself a clear Best International Film winner. When I saw that it only got the one nom, I knew this wasn’t the winner, no matter how good the film is.

@@waldo109 do you even know what shot by shot remake means? It means they really copied a lot from the first movie. They did nearly everything like the first movie did and didn’t give it a different perspective or anything. And don‘t get me wrong, I liked the movie. But considering that it basically is just a newer version of the other film, just makes it less of a filmmaking achievement. And the Oscars are there to award the biggest filmmaking achievements. That‘s my point. Of course it‘s still a good movie.

20 days in Mariupol was totally deserved. So many people don't even know how hard it was to take the footage out of occupied Mariupol. The director and the operator, accompanied by a local policeman, all drove together in a car through 15 russian checkpoints (100 km of russian-occupied territory), while the cameras and hard drives with materials were hidden under the seats of the car - something for which they could all be killed if the russians found out. You can't even imagine what they felt.

Genuinely think it was too quiet and subtle for the average movie watcher but that's exactly why I loved it so much. It’s able to capture so many feelings without having to spell out everything for the audience. I also feel like many people, especially those without immigrant backgrounds, tend to misinterpret the movie or focus too much on the childhood friend/crush part of the movie. Obviously it's a huge part of it but it's also about how Nora essentially loses a part of herself by leaving and how she deals with leaving that part of herself that never got to be behind.

Nyad is absolutely not a true story. Look up “Nyad fact check”. She’s a pathological liar and the swim she supposedly completed could not have been completed in the way she claims to have done it. I still don't understand the hype behind Oppenheimer to be honest. Watched it, enjoyed it, but for a lot of people it seems to have just stuck with them, whereas I found it to be a pretty average movie on a character level (as per with Nolan), with average acting from Cillian, Safdie & Florence, but a great experience from a cinematography standpoint, and with Robert Downey Jr. doing his best work in a while. Solid 7/10 film for sure.

disagree with society of the snow. the knowledge that this is a real event causes a level of investment where the constant intensity makes you so anxious the entire film, and you end up feeling with them - the dread whenever some new terrible thing happens, the relief at even tiny victories, and the pure joy when they see the farmer. i think the end could have been paced a bit better, it was weirdly rushed, but the film was about the humanity and connections of the survivors, not the action or drama. i think it's an incredible work of art and i do cry every time i watch it.

6:39 indeed, Oppenheimer makes the best view blockbuster success and it’s the most incredible biopic story about a man who created atomic bombs and focus a lot detail of making a man’s history with people and other parts. This probably will win best picture, Nolan deserves directing achievement, supporting role to Downey Jr., editing is nice, score is great, and that’s all the films gets credit for.

Im impressed u watched them all. I just saw poor things the other day. It was def unlike anything ive seen before; i mostly liked it. The only other nominated movies I saw this past year were barbie and past lives. Past lives was incredible; I left stunned and crying.

Oh i forgot that i also saw the holdovers. Its good and i like that it feels vintage; i dont know why davine joy randolph is being raved about in it. She is good but i dont think she was in that much of the movie and making a big enough impact to be raved about.

@@laurenbendik2006 Oppenheimer may seem long if you watch it thinking it will be a fast dialogue Tarantino type movie. But you need to fully transfer to this world. But yeah - it's a good movie. Have a nice day.

I cannot wrap my head around how anyone would choose paul giamatti’s very normal performance over cillian murphy’s triumph

Same! I literally watched The Holdovers a few hours ago and enjoyed his performance but nothing stood out about his performance in particular. Though he was great, Cillian deserves best actor this year. Hands down

I love both Giamatti and Murphys performances but come on man. You can't say Giamatti is carrying his film, and Murphy isn't. Oppenheimer is completely dependent on Murphy. If he was bad, the movie would stink.

Emma Stone over Lily for me, but I'm sure the Academy will give it to Lily because she's the first Native American to be nominated. But I believe Emma Stone deserves it for Poor Things. What she did with Bela's character is beautiful. Also, Poor Things for Best Picture but I'm sure the Academy will choose Oppenheimer because, well, it's Oppenheimer.

@@ljacobs357 Because it's not a typical Holocaust movie. The disturbing thing is the normal life of a family next to the place in which people were tortured and killed. This film is supposed to disturb in that sense everyone. Sorry if you read it in kinda "your dumb" way, I don't mean it. Have a nice day

I don't understand the love for May December. A movie that should have been an psychological examination of a child abuser and how she rationalizes her behavior was turned into a snobbish criticism of method acting.

I think that nominations of Oscars 2024 were good. I would love to see some love for The Peasents, but there were a lot of good animated films this year (although, I would cut Nimona - overrated for me).
