As a Pakistani, I was in UK in 2007, studying in a UK university. In my class of nearly 60 students, the best friends I made were almost all Indians. After initial hesitations (mostly on my part, I admit), we gelled so well that students from other countries used to wonder how we from two different countries spoke the same language and looked in every sense the same.
