About Vent art and depressing days, from personal experience. Venting doesn't always help. Sometimes, drawing sad and depressing things is just as bad as sitting around moping and whining. Sometimes, to help you stay cool and calm instead of depressed and sad, you should just... Take a walk. Or talk about it. Maybe even change your diet a little, a lil vitamin D can do a world of good!! Trust me when I say that sleeping, exercising, and eating well really helps you if you're depresssed.
@choco-drops6 жыл бұрын
Natalie hi! Thank you, I was wondering about this! I accidentally did vent art subconsciously last year when I was going through some stuff, and I remember being incredibly down about it. Anyway, you've given some very good advice here.
@cooperwilliams25956 жыл бұрын
Tess, I hope you're feeling better
@eryn73526 жыл бұрын
with personally having actual diagnosed depression, taking a walk or soaking up sun isn't going to reverse the chemical imbalance in my brain. vent art to me is a way of being able to express things that are otherwise impossible to even think about translating into words. I understand your point that if it's just a 'depressive mood' then do those easy things, but please don't suggest it to actual depressed people as its kinda really condescending
@cooperwilliams25956 жыл бұрын
I'm super sorry to hear that ;~; I see where you're coming from too. A close friend of mine has the same exact problem. From my semi-seasonal issues and her chemical one, we both do around the same things to cope. I hope you understand that I wasn't intending on being insulting. :)
@queenlexy74466 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with honery. I had depressions for 6 years and at some point walking etc just doesn't do anything to you anymore it's just a thing you do because other people told you to do it while art really can help you let it all out. I was on stationary therapy multible times and art therapy really was one of the most effective ones also having one of the canvases from art therapy hanging in my room in the moment helps me to actually see where I never wanna be again
@Craftsworldsocial6 жыл бұрын
lol I have entire characters for venting, but idk for me it's the reverse with the whole digital ba traditional thing. I think it depends on the person, but for me, I've always struggled with keeping anatomy consistent and polishing my work. Traditional made it so you either keep mistakes or start again. And for someone like me who's lazy af, wasn't the best idea... idk I think picking a medium that suits you is what matters.
@KaseyTheGolden6 жыл бұрын
I agree, digital wasn't good for me because I get stuck on perfecting details so moving to traditional was the best for me to move on. It's interesting to see who picks what and for what reasons!

@a.s.37196 жыл бұрын
I actually never draw myself O.O (even tho I draw a lot) but this really makes me remember that time I was around 8/9 years old and drew a girl getting bullied by others, getting insulted a lot and the girl was very sad, she had the same hair and eyecolour as I have, but she was not me! I erased the whole drawing, because I didn't want her to be bullied. I drew the girl happy on the other side of the paper and gave the drawing to a teacher of mine. After some time I suddenly had to talk with someone and they asked me weird questions, like if my parents abused me and if the girl on the drawing was me(the erased girl that got bullied). I told them it wasn't me and I wasn't getting abused, they kept asking more though, like "who is the girl then?!" and I started crying, because she wasn't anyone I knew and I felt very pressured and just didn't know what to do when they were asking me such weird questions. My parents got in a lot of trouble, while they never even abused me and I switched schools soon after that. I don't know why I'm sharing this😂😂

My friend asked me the other day why I draw characters in bathing suits so much. She was really complaining about how it was winter and I shouldn’t have characters half nude. This got me thinking. Do I just like to draw curves, or body shapes? Something else I noticed is that in the summer, I draw my characters in heavy cotton clothing. Maybe it’s my longing for the seasons to change. Not sure but I need to know if other people do this too :/

My mood affects my art so much, that sometimes I don't realize it... Looking back my drawings when I was 13/14 is a wild trip, without exception in all of them there's someone crying (dark tears btw) .. I was really depressed back then but didn't realize it, and I feel uncomfortable to just look at it nowadays.

Your babies are adorable. And I wish I could make vent art. But for me, if I'm feeling bad, I usually just get art block, which kinda sucks. I tried using the watercolors, but the ink from the pen bled into the water. I lined the drawing at night then painted it in the morning, and I don't think I used too much water, but maybe I was still doing something wrong?? Idk just thought I should ask your advice

Maybe try a different type of inking pen. India Ink is great for using with watercolour. I use the Faber Castell PITT artist pens to make lineart for watercolour. Otherwise you can get india ink in a bottle and use a dip pen or brush, or see if there's other pens that use india ink.
