This a review of my AOSOM bike trailer previously used in my LED build episode.
I’ve used a few times a week for grocery runs for a year.
Unlike most bike trailers, this one uses a unique seatpost connector that I really appreciate. But it’s not perfect; the linkage itself is very secure but there is no quick way of removing it from the bike.
If you’re using this on a trail, you may find it difficult to drop the seatpost. Hydraulic dropper posts might not appreciate the forces at all.
Hooking it up is simple, though initially you might find securely clicking it in place to be awkward. Once it clicked in, however, it hasn’t accidentally disengaged.
It isn’t too easy to remove, but you don’t want it to be.
The linkage is essentially a massive spring that gives it a wide range of motion; super tight turns won’t be a problem; but the connecting arm will rub against larger tyres when going off a tall curb.
The canvas cover comes with straps but I don’t use them, as it seems secure enough on its own. The canvas is so tight that it’s worn some holes in the corners, and I’ll probably patch them someday.
The trailer is easily removed from its frame, but the trade-off is a rattling noise. Some people strap it in to reduce that. When it’s carrying weight, it’s very stable and quiet.
When it’s unloaded, hitting smaller bumps at speed can cause it to flip over and the handle can contact your wheel, potentially spokes. There is probably some design flaw here.
A bolt fell out of mine because I didn’t use threadlocker, but a ring clamp solved that problem. It’s been through the most abuse recently while being pulled down the trail carrying a 23lb battery.
It’s barely wider than me and the bike are, but like driving a tractor-trailer, make wide turns or risk disaster.
The canvas lid is actually very good at keeping the inside dry. Water can pool up for quite some time with no seepage.
As a kid, I always thought it would be so cool to have.. You get used to its quirks, and I don’t think I could live without one now that I’ve used it for so long. It’s easier to pull than you’d think, and adds momentum on downhill.

I am glad this review is still on YT. I just bought one and I'm waiting for delivery. The bike hitch seems to have been changed to resemble a small regular ball trailer hitch. I guess this is to make it easier to attach and remove.

Nice short review. I just ordered this exact model. I paid $84 for it and will be using it with my folding fat tire ebike (Lectric XP). I plan on transporting groceries, my spare battery and anything else I can think of.

@@BikingWIthPanda yeah it has, I think it's worth every penny. I listened to what you said and applied locktite on all the threads to avoid losing bolts and nuts. It matches the look of my Lectric XP very nicely. My only complaint is the cover is quite difficult to install and remove. It's really tight!

it gets better over time and as such doesn't get toooo loose in a few years. the corners develop holes due to the tension though.

The trailer review!!! Pretty cool.... I mean u can outfit that thing for serious filming too... Or a far off the beaten path, beer fest.. Getting back would be real fun... But on a serious note, bike-packing can be a lot easier with this... Imagine what Alex and Seth's key west trip would be like with bike trailers....

I got a 2 starter for kids trailer for 40 bucks like new but used. I owned one before and used it for trail builds and store getter it has a wider track they don’t tip some can be heavy my last one was all steel movers left it behind and I could not retrieve it so I found a schwinn one for sale all aluminum for the price it was a steal spoke rims like new. I used it to go to the store it held 20 bags of groceries. I plan on putting it to use on a new trail build just get the tools and go. Plus it has all coverage. You can get burly ones for more money. But I found that I can add aluminum on the bottom to sturdy it more but never had to yet. I found mine in a local sale I need to change the pin connector cause the one it has is to stiff. But a new one is only 7 bucks so no big cost yet. Maybe look into one. The colors are not so nice sometimes. Mine is blue n silver I lucked out. Some come with blue red and yellow or black n red or just yellow and white. But you can probably use the one you got and a baby trailer as a two trailer hook the together. Check out KZbin for baby trailers. They work out pretty good

Everybody has great ideas. I'd consider something for shock absorption for gear that might need it as this doesn't have any. I've only seen that on some one wheel trailers and taking bumps so well I wish it was on two wheel trailers.

Just ordered one of these from the company last night. It was not for $85 bucks though, so I do wish I had found them at that price. They look a bit larger in the stock photos of them. I was hoping it would work out for carrying my smaller dog, but not so sure about that. I do have a larger bike trailer on order which is pretty much all metal. I am used to having ballast in things, as I drove a Ural sidecar for years. The issue with seats may be a problem, as I have a HeyBike Mars with the spring seat on it. I will have to see about any bottoming out on the tires since this one hooks up to the seat post. I have other hitches and they may be adaptable to hitch this trailer somewhere on the bike other than the seat post. Thanks for the video. Hoping mine works well for my needs.

I found that loaded the trailer suffered badly from shimmy, which was bad enough to affect the bike steering. I had to put partitions into the box to keep the trailer nose heavy. I am now putting a low attachment point on the trailer to prevent the unwanted oscillation.

@BikingWIthPanda 5 жыл бұрын
that is really interesting. do you have a video demonstrating this? i can't say i've noticed the same, but i haven't been looking out for it. I've been making great use of this out here in BC for grocery fetching.

I did some experiments today with bags of (fresh!) kitty litter. you are right - it will shimmy if it is not loaded front heavy. this is standard trailer practice! it is amazing how that rule still applies at this small scale.

A little DIY-solution to keep it from flipping over(when hitting bumps)? ...if you're looking at a through-axle, buy some threaded bar and put 2 wheels(either Lowes or Home Depo.) on each side, thus making it into a dually. Or else look into upgrading your tires to something more thicker/beefier ...I do believe it's either Surly or Burley that sells a wider tire.

I was thinking about getting this to attach to my cougar chariot double jogging stroller. Do you think the long arm would be enough space that I could walk comfortable with it behind the stroller? Or would it be hitting my heels?

I am sorry I cannot show a video and the conversion to a low axle towing point is almost complete The snaking from side to side depended on load, load distribution and speed. The shimmy was not there at low speed but was at its worst at about 15 mph. I notice you are using a fat bike whilst I was using a hybrid on rough, potholed roads. Perhaps the fat bike is more resistant to the 'tail wagging the dog' effect and more stable as a result I quite accept that you find the trailer good for your setup but there is some variable causing the trailer in my configuration to have a mind of its own. Once the conversion sorts the problem then cycle camping here I come!

it's all good - I am glad to help figure it out. I also used a road bike with this one in summer time - that's the way I'm used to using the trailer. the fat bike does interfere a bit, the tyre is so huge - when going off a curb it might rub. do you notice any alignment issue with the axle or wheels? the wheels and their connection don't seem to be the most robust.

I actually just bought this trailer and am waiting for it to arrive. I bought it to transport items and occasionally a 40 pound dog to the beach which is fairly close. The issues you are having worries me with transporting an animal. I was hoping this would be very sturdy and safe. I have an electric fat tire bike this will be hooked up too. I usually travel faster than 15mph so that worries me too. Hoping I can figure it out or might need to return Thanks
@richardwaring8613

It is not impossible to use like this. I found that I had to make sure the trailer was nose heavy like a trailer for a car has to be. The other important thing was the tyre pressures had to be the same. I did put a low tow arm on, which did require a bit of metal work, and I can tell if it is nose light because the connection rattles but is still stable.
