Kasm Workspaces is dubbed as the "Container Streaming Platform", and it gives you the ability to quickly launch containers (dubbed "Workspaces") that can consist of applications and even entire Linux distributions - all from within your web browser. In this video, Jay will give you his thoughts on Kasm Workspaces.

Congrats Jay on reaching 400k subscribers. It means you are really creating good, thoroughly thought of content. I certainly enjoy your talks with Jaõ. And probably I'll look into some things as Kasm. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing all this content!

Finally a pricing scheme that doesn't look ridiculous. If I were to use this, I'd be willing to pay for it, because the pricing is fair. Good job Kasm!!!

For me, what's missing in this video are a few hands on examples of how to set up workspaces for some of the use cases mentioned in the vid: A workspace for an entire distro, a workspace for a website, etc.

Just thought I'd say "Thanks". With a lot of help from you I have finally switched my k8s VMs to "full time" and am moving my docker stacks there bit by bit. I still use your blog for my "new node" prep, although I's now templated. Would love a video on longhorn (going to check if you have already)

I am running all the Kasm components separately within k3s - except for the agents, they are connected to a vpn and sit on several virtual machines - it is complex to set it up this way - however, it is awesome!

Kasm for 1 or 2 people at the same time should work, and this is of course the non-commercial aspect. Otherwise, you would need a pro subscription for each single user. Kasm really looks like an equivalent to Citrix, what is a well-known software solution for streaming applications. I will give this software a try in my home lab soon. Thanks for sharing this video, and I'm looking forward to seeing more about Kasm and in depth videos.

Does it do PCIe pass trough? It’s easy to create VMs and dockers, the issue is dealing with GPUs and other PCIe devices in hosted environments.

I'm a little confused. So does it just stream video to a web portal like Kasm VNC, that being video of what's running on the server, or does it stream storage and emulate the system in browser like emulatorjs? The doom gaming makes me think there is almost no latency, and doom is literally built in to emulatorjs.

I bought a machine just for this purpose, and I love it. Homeschooling on it is a breeze since it's browser agnostic and I map all of their shares to my NFS server for their user accounts. One thing though, it's a 5 instance license, not 5 users. If you have a user running 3 things at once, then You're only able to let 2 more users use one instance a piece, so now I'm wondering if I should just create 2 VMs and cluster Kasm so I can get 10 instances.

Hi. can you explain this part "I should just create 2 VMs and cluster Kasm so I can get 10 instances.". Thanks in advance.
@hotstovejer
@hotstovejer 9 ай бұрын
@@backupone3541 Well, the machine I have this running bare metal on is overkill to the max. 40 threads and 128gb of ram. If I am just limited to 5 instances per machine, then if I just throw Proxmox on the machine, and use 4 VMs each running Kasm, then I am going to test out if I can get 20 instances or if that's just stuck behind a paywall.
@jalsing

i@@hotstovejer it works on ARM just container selection (at least from KASM repository) is limited. I have it running in Oracle Cloud Arm instance.

Are there any alternatives to Kasm? I am looking for a service, that will allow to run Docker containers for users, that are not experienced in Docker. Something with WEB UI, user accounts and possibilities to mount home folders into various Docker containers. Kasm looks like a wonderful project, but too expensive for a school project (~40 concurrent sessions). Maybe someone can recommend anything else?

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:18 🎥 Kasm Workspaces is a container streaming platform that provides quick access to applications and Linux distributions through a web browser. 00:47 💻 Potential use cases include trying out Linux distros, creating isolated workspaces, and testing web apps in different browsers. 01:14 📜 The video follows the creator's ethics policy of not allowing sponsor screening or feedback during reviews. 02:50 💵 Kasm Workspaces is free to download and use without limits, paid tiers unlock more features. 05:40 🤔 It can complement existing container solutions rather than replace them. 07:19 🎮 You can even run games like Doom in a Kasm workspace. 08:26 ❗️ The free version limits you to 5 concurrent sessions. 09:11 👍 The creator likes the easy interface but wishes no limit on self-hosted instances.
