There was something magical about this time period in Billy's songwriting. Almost like he was tapping into some mystical power and you can hear the intense emotions come out through the various layers, vocally and sonically

Bravo for completing the whole album! What a trip. For a bit of context; this was released in the era of CD’s so it was a “double CD” album. The 28 songs were split evenly between the two discs at 14 tracks a piece. Disc 1 was titled, “Dawn to Dusk” and Disc 2, “Twilight to Starlight “. So it Definitely makes sense that it was intended to be digested in two parts. Also, on the song “Take me down” you are hearing the second guitarist James Iha singing. You also hear him and the rest of the band join on “Farewell and Goodnight” including both the drummer, Jimmy Chamberlain and bassist D’arcy Wretzky. Thanks for the great reaction!

So much soul and beauty in Mellon Collie. Rolling Stone did it dirty putting it only in the lower half of its GOAT list.

100% agreed however Rolling Stone are fuckwits anyways and should not be taken seriously imho so it really doesnt matter

An incredible album. A band at their creative peak, and Corgan knew it. Siamese Dream followed by this, two of the greatest albums of all-time.

Fantastic album, my absolute favourite. It only gets better the more you listen to it too. The soundscapes are incredibly evocative to me, and works really well with the amazing cover art and album booklet. A lot of the sounds really reminds me of watching the starry night sky. As much as I love Adore (their next album), I think you might enjoy Machina and Zeitgeist more.

Watched the whole thing. Love the album. I can always tell when you like a song before you say. Haha. I remember I forced my mom to let me stay home from school so I could go to tower records right when it opened to buy the album. I listened to it on repeat all day. So obsessed. If you like their rock side… then I’d suggest Machina The Machines of God next or find a remixed version of a Zeitgeist. It’s on KZbin. It’s amazing as well. Lots of energy. I can send you a link if you like. Remixed version is better because the original had the vocals extremely loud…. The remixed version fixes that issue.

Awesome reaction! Second half slows down in some ways but songs are pretty much top tier through Ode or Love. THen the rest are better than filler. even the songs I'm lukewarm on are imaginative, and written and performed well. And they absolutely balance out the bangers to give my ears a chance to catch their "breath!". Glad you caught the SP vibe! Adore is a "Mid" LP. Has more a dreamy/electro/sinister "Cupid de Locke" vibe. I'd pass and go straight into Machina. Two more classic, epic LPs to check out that carry the Pumpkins hard rock/dream metal vibe. Super-highly recommend: Hum, "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" Silversun Pickups, "Carnavas"

Here's a controversial idea, which no one else has done: Since you liked this, especially the variety, why not jump right to the most recent SP album; the 33-song triple album, 'Atum'. :) If you're thinking you'd love to hear more of the Mellon Collie- type 90s hard rock stuff, you're in for a disappointment: after that, Billy announced that rock was dead and left that style behind, d'oh - although they have done heavy rock stuff since, it's only one of the the things they do. And the point of Mellon Collie was to stop them being pigeonholed as a typical alt rock band anyway..
@adamfstewart819 ай бұрын
And Atum wouldn’t disappoint? 🫤 Billy, is that you? 😝 logical next step is TAFH, no?
@TerribleEnglish9 ай бұрын
@@adamfstewart81 The Aeroplane Flies High is a collection if B-sides (and covers), like Pisces Iscariot, so it depends what the point is. Yes, it would showcase more of what the Pumpkins were capable of, but I would like to do the same thing with a modern album. No, Atum wouldn't disappoint. It's quality all the way and great songwriting in a variety of styles so is very impressive, and would put to bed right away - for a new fan - the idea that all Billy's best work is in the past.
@TerribleEnglish9 ай бұрын
@@adamfstewart81 I admit, though, that I do have an agenda: I enjoy reaction videos but I'm really tired of 95% of them being a band's old 'classic' stuff and all the comments saying "only OLD Metallica / Sepultura / Alice in Chains / Smashing Pumpkins / REM / (insert others here) stuff is good" .. which isn't true at all for any of those bands, you know?
