Every skate tourney I've ever been to we always cheer each other on but mostly are there to have fun and see how far we can push ourselves. Skateboarders are people who put 10 hours of blood sweat and tears in a single day just TRYING to land a single trick, we spend thousands of hours just trying to perfect a single trick and to do that you have to love pushing yourself to new limits and most of all enjoy skateboarding. Throw a bunch of people like that together (while skateboarding) and they will have a great time.
