From the website: "In order to protect the area from livestock, more than 13,000 meters of fencing have been constructed." That is critical. If you don't keep the goats out, it doesn't matter how many trees you plant.

It's not immediately clear from the video if this project will include a diversity of tree species or, as the video seems to indicate, create a monoculture of chestnut trees. Hopefully I'm wrong and it won't be monoculture which won't produce healthy forest, opening it up to vulnerabilities of infestations and climate change as happened with China's Great Green Wall project; in many areas they planted a monoculture of Chinese Popular Trees that became infested with a particular type of beetle resulting in 1,000,000 trees dying and setting the project back 20 years - the Project was destined to last about 50 years. It should be noted that UK scientists have discovered in recent years that what happens above ground in forests is only a [tiny] fraction of what happens below soil level. Root systems of all plants act as a cohesive community, communicating with each other, even to the extent of providing aid to other forest inhabitants as needed, particularly in times of stress by sending out root filaments and interconnecting via mycorhizzal fungi. I doubt that this will be Enel's last such project as renewable energy generation is rapidly replacing fossil fuels based generation as it's phased out. Enel may wish to consider working with @groasis a Dutch company who's Waterboxx System is excellent for re-establishment of forests in the most challenging & extreme sites. See their KZbin channel for examples and take a look at their website.

Many forests are largely monocultural. The oak savannas of Iberia and the western United States come to mind. My home has several monocultural regions in terms of trees. The hills are entirely juniper and in the higher western elevations it transitions to ponderosa forests. Don't assume that you know more about the needs of this area than the people who live there.

@@stormelemental13 I wasn't assuming anything. No need to be so crotchety.
