Yeah, if Joker was in a relationship with Makoto I don't think it'll really work. Sure putting things in the past to create a future but when you play the game again you notice that Joker isn't really the type to do that, you can see that he gets flashbacks to the events where things go wrong. So if it was between Makoto and Sumire I think Sumire would be a better option because they both kind of struggle with putting some things behind them and they can work together on moving from them. All though I'll have to talk about how Makoto's and Joker's relationship will probably realistically end up. Maybe Joker would sorta feel... Not good with it for me and this is my opinion it doesn't feel right. Even though Makoto is now an allie sometimes she can be angry and all. Sense Joker experienced trauma with people who treated him badly the aggressiveness can kind of not work well with him but with Sumire she isn't aggressive she is polite. So yeah this is my opinion on which would work. This isn't biased this is me comparing in a fair way in my opinion people are wrong about how their relationship would be handled.

Ann is canon. I don't think she's anything near best girl, but she checks each and every single jrpg cliché for canon love interest. From "first main girl the protag incidentally crosses sights right before first dungeon, having never met her before", to "not actually having many distinguishing quirks outside of being feminine (and okay maybe having studied abroad)" and even "open minded and thoughtful of the protagonist even when facing enourmous opposition to doing so" and "getting one or multiple non-MC's have a one-sided crush on her based on looks". They could very well have named her "Marle"

Also she did not meet protag right before the first dungeon, and was not a part of the starting party (that being the first members that joined until filling a full party). Forgot to mention that one. She's also got way more stuff going for her besides just being a girl. She's lived the whole of the first two semesters as a doppelganger for crying out loud. Still, Sumire is definitely a close second. Would give her more thought were she not dlc/optional and Ann didnt just scream "its me" as this game being aggressively filled with distilled jrpg tropes

You could make an argument for Haru as well since she is clearly heartbroken if you friend zone her and she's just the sweetest thing ever. But of the 2, I'd say Sumire is the best match simply because of the journey they share together. I friend zoned Sumire once to get the Thieve's Den award and I felt like an absolute piece of shit for it. I immediately loaded my save from 2 days prior when I was still rank 8 after getting that award and did the right thing. I made red girl red. The funny thing is, when I first got her to her rank 5 "max", I had zero intentions of dating her because she was too "boring" of a character for Joker. Hoo, boy was I wrong about that 😂 Now I see her as the best option. (Yusuke still best girl) Honorable mention: Hifume. While not as fulfilling as romancing one of the PT girls, Hifume is a great partner that I could see growing with the protagonist as equals. Plus the way she gets waaaay too into ruling her "Togo Kingdom" and yells out corny named techniques like an anime character doing an ultimate attack when moving pieces around on a shogi board is super cute.

So I played the shit outta that game lol) After playing P5, P5R, and its spiritual sequel P5S, a couple of times each, I'm over Thighs McGee. Haru is miles above her in nearly every way. She's clearly in love with Joker, she has a great sense of humor and has no problem playing along when Joker gets a bit silly, her idiosyncrasies like her bloodlust and her dangerous driving just make her more fun, and lastly, she'd be the best sugar momma ever. I don't know what I was thinking tbh. Haru best girl (Yusuke close 2nd 😂)

Still as sweet as ever! Before Royal, I thought Ann was the closest to being Joker's implied love interest considering the kiss on the ferris wheel. But now it's by far Sumire with how the story goes. She paid no attention to what Kamoshida said and didn't allow herself to blindly believe the rumors about Joker. Worth keeping in mind that Atlus will probably never confirm who's the real love interest, it's what they do, P3 points at Yukari more than anyone else, but Aigis was closer to Makoto as The Answer shows, and the movie even partially changes Yukari's character by removing her crush on him, P4G seemed to be pushing Marie more, but she's not confirmed either, so again, probably going to be the same thing with Ann/Sumire.

Aigis wasn't a love interest yeah, but what I meant is that The Answer shows her being closer to him than anyone else, something Yukari in particular is jealous of, that's at least hinting they didn't really get that close in The Journey.

Atlus will never flat out tell you who the implied love interest is, I thought it was Makato in the vanilla game, given the whole holding on to you part in Sojiro’s dark house, how she always went to Joker for some matters and the bond Joker got with her older sister. But without a doubt, in Royal, it’s HEAVILY implied to be Sumire. Not only does he have extreme admiration for Joker, but whenever she talked to him was polite and a little flirtatious. She overly worried about him and throughout her entire confidant rankings, she talks about how she wants Joker to watch her and see her, and only have eyes for her. Joker can tease her about love confessions multiple times and her whole literal 9th rank is her saying she isn’t running from her feelings and uses it as a gateway to tell Joker that she loves him. And if you go on White Day with anyone else, she calls you, while when you go out on White Day with her, nobody calls you. It isn’t flat out told to us, but Atlus sure did as close as they could without telling us.

Ann definetly wasn't closest to being Jokers implied love interest, tbh it felt like they might've been hinting at a thing with her and Ryuji. Out of the main group, since obviously none of the side confidants would be the main love interest, Futaba is more like a little sister, Haru doesn't have screen time, so it would have to be Makoto. She's the most vital to the plot, you're already acting as her boyfriend for half her confidant, and there are some pretty implicit scenes within the main story, especially during Futaba's palace. It's even more appearant in the anime, even if it's not canon.

For me It's because she has no relevance in the story (and also my interpretation of her whole story makes me feel like she's more creepy than sad, but the creepy part is something I think because if we put it into words maybe a girl who lost her sister due to a car crash and afterwards wanted to become her sounds a bit more creepy than sad, if I were to go off emotion though I will feel bad, but to be honest with you I can't do that, it's difficult for me to put that into perspective, and if I never put that into my mind I would still have difficulty ever feeling some sadness for her) anyways my problem is just her plot relevance means so little. These are just my reasons, anybody else can have other reasons, either annoyance, a fanfiction feel due to her being pushed as the love interest, or whatever else.
