I am awaiting the arrival (from Japan!) of a Katanaboy 500...will be keeping it in my Jeep Gladiator as part of my "Trail Kit" to clear any downed trees blocking the trail. I also carry a Silky Gomboy and Estwing 16" Camper's Axe as well. Those 3 should cover just about everything...that is, at least everything within the realm of "reasonable expectations." ;-) As for bear-protection, here in Colorado (USA) I'd be carrying a firearm. But then I do that anyway, even in the city. Cheers, -- BR

You will love the 500 it makes like work of the average tree. I cleared out some 15 to 16 inch poplars the other weekend cuts like butter , trail was soon open again, A great idea to keep one in the vehicle.

The silky range of saws are quite something .

hello, do you have experience with usual 50cm bowsaws and the bahco blade for drywood? how is it compared to the katanaboy 500? please give a honest sight on the katanaboy after longer use, months, and how it is works after refiling. best greetings.

I used bow saw for decades 24 and 36 inch ones with log blades they work ok but i have to say having now used the 500 katanaboy i would not go back to a bow saw, they cut like a baby chainsaw. , i have not had to sharpen mine at all still cuts like new and i cut hundrerds of logs/trees every year with both the silky 2000 and the 500, they are amazing saws, you cut slow and stead and only on the pull stroke they are still way faster and pinch way less than a bow saw.

@@davebloggs thanks so far. did you use a bahco blade for dry wood or just an universal blade?
@davebloggs Жыл бұрын
@@aaahbeeeh3374 someone gave me one of those years ago to try for a while I have to say they are a good little saw but Im still a firm believer that silky is better, mind you the bacho blades are way more forgiving if misused than a silky.
@aaahbeeeh3374 Жыл бұрын
@@davebloggsno, i meant bahco blade for drywood, to be inserted in a bowsaw. straight teeth. not a bahco laplander. in our observation and after tajima, several silkys of all pricesclasses (no katanaboy so far), other manufactors, the simple 10eu bowsaw with a bahco blade for drywood is the best up to 50cm length. the zübat 360 is great, but can hardly use it two handed and pricewise its very expensive. can you confirm you used that blade and bowsaw combo?

@@aaahbeeeh3374 Ah sorry for the confusion I have only ever used log blades in my bow saws as a general rule i used to discard the blade that came with them as they are often not the best and just used a proper log blade, I have to say as a general all round saw the big boy 2000 is my go to, and on a side note the 2000 is way easier to use upside down for upwards cuts . hope this helps.

Unless your doing alot of bucking this is the only saw you need to get some sizeable logs quickly
@davebloggs Жыл бұрын
I agree this thing is amazing , and I have cut countless logs/trees with this thing but for my everyday hiking and trail clearing I still use the big boy 2000 a lot of the time. but for the bigger stuff the 500 is something else for sure.

@@davebloggs yeah I had the ultra accel and just recently lost it but I could cut 5 in. diameter very easily...those curved blades cut through like butter
@davebloggs Жыл бұрын
@@freethinker5225 The curvature bites into the wood very well, I have used many saws over the years but nothing i have used cuts like a silky does.

@@sluga_Bozy777 I have been using the 500 for a couple of years and the 2000 for about 10 plus now, they still cut like new and make very light work of cutting wood. just remember they cut on the pull stroke and wow do they cut well.
