I find this as a good drill to teach how to not let the sword fly and link cuts to other cuts as the motion is similar. Btw you would see no one do this in a comp as it is just a cool trick. I did this as a beginner which helped me lot which helped me mix up the types of cuts from big ones to small ones in that between stage even though its pretty much a flashy move and can now do it even in sparing seamlessly at times to throw someone off for a sneaky wrist cut xD. I do fencing and a bit of kendo it has a two hand variant with the second hand helping it without even think about it. Oh forgot to mention i only do this occasionally and looks very different in actual matches but controlling the weapon is a very important skill regardless

Katana is the soul for us Japanese. Please treat with respect. We thank each other for swords. Katana is an important partner who kills people and protects themselves and important people. Souls are dwelling in swords that craftsmen made with soul each one. Of course, using a sword for performance is not a problem. However, if you value the sword carefully, please bow before and after use. I respect homework and results for your practice as you master the technology just like you. And thank you for spreading swords through the KZbin to the world. Good luck in the future. from Japan
@jort93z6 жыл бұрын
I believe the sword he is using is a cheap mass produce iaito. But you should probably treat cheaply made, dull swords with respect as well.
@ncr0046 жыл бұрын
I do not think a man who is not Japanese or does not train Kenjutsu need to do it in the Japaneset way... The best way to respect your sword is practice hard and treat it carefully. Although I never bow to my katana, I care it nicely and practice very hard with my teacher. Also, his swords are not looking authentic, that metal sword should be a dull one for practicing the forms (katas), not a well made, sharp sword.

But if I did a beginner tutorial from the base, I could learn your techniques at home. There is little force in this spinning. You sacrifice it, when you use only one hand, also you need different grip and movement technique to generate force. Katana can be sharp or dull, but won't be sharper than just sharpened knife. You can try it yourself.
