I met her when I was working room service at the Swissotel Boston in 1994. She was a total doll. At the time my German was better than it is now and she gave me an autograph in German. Beautiful classy lady.

The hours upon hours of practice each day for years is what we don't see. All the skaters that compete in the Olympics are champions in my eyes. I remember watching both of her gold medal wins. Amazing performance in every way. Like a ballerina on ice.

@@Zeppolino100 Dude, this is not about your estimation or feelings, those are cold hard facts. Witt won Olympic gold twice, the WC four times and she's known for those qualities. Oksana was great but she was, looked like and had the appeal of a little girl. I was a bit younger than her when she rose to fame btw. and I loooooved to watch ice skating with my dad back then and I was quite the fan of hers. She was the next big ice princess after Katarina.

There are no cold hard facts when it comes to that place where athleticism meets artistic interpretation. I personally do not believe that the number of championships--in any competitive endeavor, are the actual measure of who reached the pinnacle. That certainly is ONE important measure, but it simply cannot define the complexities and subtleties of ANY form of art. Im Vergleich zu den Läufen in Peking mit einem 4 fachen nach einander ist es erstaunlich,dass mir ihre Kür besser gefällt. So seidig, so positiv und fließend dynamisch mit einem eleganten Einstieg von Lauf zur Technischen Umsetzung. Kathi Witt ist eine wirkliche Expertin und sollte mehr Einfluss auf diesen Sport bekommen.

das tolle ist das es damals nicht nach Nationalstolz ging, sondern wer das Publikum am meisten in seinen Bann ziehen konnte...Technisch haben sie viele überflügelt aber Künstlerisch wurde sie nie übertroffen. Excactly, thats what she still does. So much condescension, so much ignorance and hate in the west, the year before they had thrown bottles on our Ice hockey players in Munich. And lo what grace and what a smile. I remember having been on winter vacation with my parents that year and watching her - wonderful childhood in the GDR!!!!! ;)

Katarina was one, if not the best female skater of all time! Not only that but, a very good looking girl! I liked her a lot. Elizabeth Manley, Debi Thomas, and the dark haired girl at the end of this video that I do not recall. Congrats to you all!!
