Thank you for watching. Let me know how you enjoyed the exercise. As I said in the video, practice in your comfortable range first.

Thank you for your video on lip trills. Unfortunately I find lip or tongue trills impossible to do. Is there an alternative, possibly the V sound?

I love practicing my lip trills with you. In accident I lost my high range voice and I am very nervous. Singing is my passion and I hope I will get my high range voice back. Your videos are amazing and easy to follow. I listen to them everyday and try to practice with you. Thank you for your help. 🙏🥰

Thank you 🙏 soooo much, the hands on my cheeks makes a huge difference, I used to retract my tongue ( as a bad habit from opera singing) and this is the only way that I can use to make the lip trills without hurting my throat. 🥺 Thanks again 😭. New subscriber 🇲🇽

Thank you Kelly for your comment. Yes, starting in your comfortable range is a very good idea. Then, you can slowly expand to lower and higher ranges.

Yay! That is very good. One of the goals of this exercise is to decrease tension in the vocal mechanism - whereever it may be. It worked for you!

Are lip trills a good exercise for vocal fold atrophy and vocal fold bowing- I think straw exercises are helpful and hoping lip trills are also helpful. Can you recommend the best exercises for this particular problem? Thanks!
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
Lip trills are a type of SOVT exercise, with similar benefits to straw exercises. Vocal fold atrophy is not my expertise. You can look up PhoRTE Voice Therapy, which is made for people with vocal fold bowing and atrophy.

Hey Katarina, it seems i can only do the lip trills whe i support my cheecks and then even not perfectly. They seem to be tensed all the time . Any tips please
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
It's ok to do the lip trills with supported cheeks. I don't do my lip trills in any other way. Ask yourself what the goal is. Is it to know how to do the lip trills unsupported or use this exercise to release tension or achieve any other goal?

I want to ask if this also good exercise for vocal coral paralisys (one sided). Thank you.
@healthyvoicetips5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. There are other exercises that are more suitable for vocal fold paralysis but you can try this exercise and add more vigorous breath flow and pressure (still without adding tension in your lips, jaw, tongue ...). You may not be able to do lip trills at all (because the increased breath pressure will simply be too much for your lips). If you can do a lip trill, then it is beneficial because there is a back pressure coming from your lips to the vocal folds and optimizing their function. Try it and let me know.

I think I’m tone deaf. Or tone difunctional. I can hear the difference but I can rarely copy the tone. I can’t carry a tune. I have all kinds of capacity. I’m loud as an ambulance I just can’t Cary a tune. I’ve wanted sing as early as second grade when I tried out for chorus and chorus teacher told me “ You can’t sing ! You can’t carry a tune! Maybe next year…..” crushed me and it stuck. I am grown woman with lifetimes under my belt, two beautiful grown kids and retirement the only thing ahead of me. My bucket list is be able to take this instrument this incredibly loud voice and blast a song on key for me to enjoy. My poor neighbors as I sing daily all day long but so off key I’m sure it’s quite comedic. They never say a word. They either very kind or terrified I could be louder. I thought lip rolls were silly at first but I would do them 5 hours a day if I thought I could actually learn to sing. Broken spirit

Carrie, thanks for your comment. I am SO sorry to hear you've been dealing with that situation. OF COURSE everyone can sing and learn how to use and develop the voice skills. Don't let anyone tell you the opposite because our voice could easily get blocked.
