If you actually thought that was good, you're missing out on something special. The whole "subjective" and "opinion" aspect of music is only to a certain extent and has it's limitations... As any type of art, there is GOOD art and then there is BAD art ... and of course there is in-between. If you thought that this "eye candy" (not "ear candy"), one dimensional rendition of two incredibly well thought out pieces of art was talented, then I have good news for you - there's something special out there for you yet to discover... and once you do it, it'll open up a level of musicality and art awareness/perspective that will change your life for the better, forever. There's nothing wrong with covering songs... in fact there are a lot of songs that have been covered so well that I prefer them to their original counterparts (many of them done by The Grateful Dead). When you make any type of music, whether it be original or a cover it should be MUSICAL... it should have life, it should grab your attention, it should be emotionally influencing, it should be multi-dimensional and have a balance between a predictive and non-predictive nature, it should tell a story both instrumentally and lyrically, the message should be open to interpretation and personally special. What I saw in this video was NOT musical (other than the very well thought out and musical lyrics/vocals that other, better bands wrote). What I saw was a more "look at me" and not "listen to me" demonstration in an attempt to distract from the lack of musical ability. The guitar solo for instance was not MUSICAL... it didn't emphasis the chords being played, it was not modal, it was not emotional, it didn't speak in full well thought out sentences... it was simply noodling, out of key, gibberish... it had no story or life. It's okay if you thought this was good... you're not "dumb" or "stupid"... you just have a lot to learn. All you have to do is really really listen .. it should move you and make you FEEL (not necessarily "good" or "bad") but it should make you FEEL.
