+Patrick3183 They are there because they need a break from the 20 room palace and want to use the poor kids in india to give them attention. This trip cost thousands, paid for by the tax payers that keep this lazy pair. The money spent on their plane, guards, clothes and all the rest of it could have been spent on needy people, starving people and people that need hospital treatment. Kate and William are a pair of greedy self pleasing lazy adults in their mid 30's that do less work than the queen who is 90. Kate Middleton has huge feet and a huge ego, which she feeds on these trips.

Still I do wonder why we still hang on to the dynastic constitutional monarchy system which runs so contrary to the basic principles of equality of opportunity and meritocracy adopted by most other countries in the 21st century. Of course I've heard all the arguments about our head of state being politically independent, the tourism industry etc., etc. but I still feel it's a bit silly to be clinging on to a sort of Walt Disney fairy story which we all know is make believe. Apart from the cost of it all I think it puts us at a hostage to fortune when we know that as real people these royals are subject to the same slings and arrows as the rest of us leading to a succession of constitutional crisis situations we remember.

+Melay Perez I guess in the end all countries are ruled by an "elite". It's just that some countries are better at cloaking them in some kind of magical disguise or as we call it "smoke and mirrors". Even America "the home of the free" is probably really run by it's military industrial barons. Who knows ? In the case of the UK I think too often the royals are used as a distraction from the real hard edge life and death decisions made by the politicians and of course under our democratic system these politicians are elected by ordinary people who just want a job to support themselves and their families. I'm sure Democracy is better than Tyrany but whilst it may give people what they want it may not always give them what they need ? Over to the clerics and philosophers for an answer to that one :-)
