Not Likely. About the same as the chances of Kate (or Kraftwerk!) releasing a new album. This time, her retirement seems permanent. She just doesn't care anymore, and she seems content with her ordinary suburban life. If she's happy, and it's truly her decision, then I'm O.K. with that. She seems creatively dried up.

Kate is "disappointed" in some of her work...after touching the hearts and minds and souls of millions of people across the world. And continuing to do so every day through her music and visual images and physical movement. And her eyes. Her humble stance in this world has allowed her to express a thousand things from which, by embracing them, we have all been made better.

I absolutely adore Kate and her work. But I have to say that for me, "Directors Cut" just didn't work, I much preferred the originals in every instance. I give her props for re-interpreting her own work and if, artistically, it was fulfilling to her, that's great. For me, the album was a rare misstep in her musical legacy but that's just my own little, insignificant opinion. if Kate graces us with any more new music, which she may or may not, I'd like to see her delve deeper into electronic experimentation and creating interesting and literate soundscapes, but of course, always in service to the song and her lyrics. Or perhaps go full Irish and do something that delves even deeper into traditional Irish music and instrumentation as she has done so effectively in the past. She could never utter a public word or put out another note of music and her legacy would still be epic and monumental. I really just want for her whatever she wants, if that's to make more music, great, if that's to retire from public life and music making, great, she has earned the right to do whatever she wants and she will always be musical and cultural legend. People will be listening to her music hundreds of years from now I predict. Nobody has ever really had the same path as she has had and it will live on beyond all of our lives I think.

With digital, I assume it's a combination of sample rate (greater number of samples per second = closer APPROXIMATION to the original waveforms) & that the Japanese designers of the original .MP3 format may have tended unconsciously to bias the response toward the higher frequencies more common in Japanese music.
@roguealien423

NB To save on storage space, lower sample rates are used in commercially issued recordings, so approximation is less close to characteristics of original sound source

I’m so glad she did Director’s Cut and let those songs breathe a little. Some of the production on Red Shoes and Sensual World was so laden with that goopy digital excess that was pervasive during the late 80s / early 90s. But the original melody of Never Be Mine is by far my favorite. She’s such an original.

Listening to the directors cut makes me long for the originals. There has never been anyone like Kate, but it's now time for her to recognize her voice now has limits. I would love to hear new material from her that suits her voice now. The reworked Moments of Pleasure was beautiful. This Womans Work had a few slight issues.
@NickSBailey
@NickSBailey 2 жыл бұрын
Disagree, it's as expressive as it ever was and her voice was never about technical perfection anyway, she always did have quite an unusual technique, you can tell she developed it herself without lessons and this is what makes it unique because she's focused on mood more than method, it's more conversational and expressive than a typical trained voice, now age has added to it but you can still feel what she's thinking and that's what matters most in singing I think. It's much rarer than good breath control, pure clarity, nice vibrato and the rest etc.
@charliechaz1982
@charliechaz1982 2 жыл бұрын
I would argue based on the evidence of her live shows in 2014 that she still very much had that higher range. She was singing some of her early work near identical to the original recordings. I think by the 00's she had actually just added to her skill set a deeper maturer range that she can call upon if needed and still do all the older rangey stuff aswell.

Hey lyrics are more interesting than Joyce's in the context of the song. (I am familiar with Joyce's works) I think it was nothing other than a stroke of great fortune she was denied permission initially. She was inspired by art and was forced to make new art instead of just setting it to music.
