I am now 67 and loved Kate from the first time I saw her singing Wuthering heights on Top of the Pops, I had so many posters and stuff that my girlfriend who is now my wife wouldn’t come into my bedroom, saw Kate live in Manchester in 1978 and was walking on air for weeks after, I’ve never lost my love and admiration for her and she still causes controversy between my wife and I 😂 the only thing that has made me upset is her last concert ‘Before the Dawn’ was never released on blueway or dvd as I wasn’t able to get her shows as they were all in London and as a big fan of Kate I would have thought she would have let one be made 😢

I'm now 61 and was fortunate to have found Kate when she was 19 and sung Wuthering Heights, I've followed in awe and can say with out any doubt she is the greatest female artist ever. Like millions of others I fell in love and still am in love. Thank you Kate for sharing your talent the world is brighter and sounds better because of you.

I too am almost 61, so glad I was there from the beginning. Of all the bands and artists I've wanted to see over the years, Kate Bush is the only one I never saw live. She really is the perfect package. I don't know of anybody male or female who has all of her artistic skills.

She is nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame again in 2021. The fact that she isn't already in is a crime. This woman is a freaking legend. This song wrecks me every time I listen to it. It immediately takes me back to when I was younger and lost people close to me. As you read through the comments here, you notice it does this to a lot of people. That is mastery.

So true ! Anybody I know who’s heard it thinks it’s terrible like a lot of her songs. It’s like a strange reassurance for me, to know there are really honest feeling deep people out there. I don’t seem to hear anybody else that plunging deeper than every day
@patricklee777
@patricklee777 3 ай бұрын
Indeed. I heard this the first time one winter's day. It (the Red Shoes) had just been released (on CD!!!) and I was doing some work on my computer, so I popped it in the drive. I was half-listening... until this came on. I had to pause and listen attentively, enthralled. I knew immediately what it was about intuitively, and still remember the moment I first heard it. There are very few songs about which I can make similar claims - save perhaps "Misty Mountain Hop", which was playing on cassette when I totaled my first car. That was a different kind of experience, certainly not as haunting or beautiful. I think the former left a greater mark on me than the few superficial injuries of the latter. Dame? Sure, she's earned it. I remember her first appearance on SNL, which was widely panned but intriguing, even to a very young me.

Kate Bush, your music saves. We're a newly-homeless family, and it has gotten us through so much. Even the toddler adores you; your name was one of his first words, and he could pick your face out on our Prime library. This song is my daughter's favorite track on The Red Shoes. She said it makes her cry internally. My eldest loves your Hounds Of Love album. The Jig Of Life always centers me. Before The Dawn was the last thing we bought and it was excellent; we all wished we could have been there! Your art follows us everywhere, since we keep it in the car. Thank you for giving us moments as a family, and individuals, where we can feel whole. I love you. We all do.

People need to allow this kind of sadness in. The way to overcome hardship is not always (not even often) happiness -- it is allowing yourself to be sad, to truly reflect on life. Happiness doesn't cure cynicism or despair -- sadness does. This song exemplifies why beautiful, poetic sadness heals us.

I agree. This will always be her masterpiece as far as I’m concerned. That’s because, of all her songs, it speaks to the universal themes of life and death and how we cope with losing those whom we have loved. This is on the same level as Joni Mitchell’s The Circle Game and Both Sides Now. All three songs brilliantly written, deeply moving and written by women who were uncannily beyond their years.

He rushed down to the bus to give me the item, and he waved his walking stick to me as the bus left. Gets me all the time, especially as he died on New Year's Day, 2007. I started listening to Kate Bush when I was 12 years old,I am 54 now. Reading some of the comments below,I think I know why we feel as we do when we listen to her.She translates a longing with her haunting voice and incredible songs.She brings up that feeling of melancholy,romance,love regret and time lost. But also of innocence lost and mystery. She can be an escape from all the harsh things of life,from all the disappointments we face as people every day.It is great to dive into her world and let yourself being carried on a cloud of sensuality,,sensitivity and femininity. Yes,even when you are a man.She brings the truth to us,but does it in such a gentle way. I am still very impressed with her incredible talent and staying power.This is my favorite song of her,together with saxophone song,running up that hill and night of the swallow.Thank you Kate,for making it all a little more beautiful.

So I took the time to search for her in YT. And listen to her songs. I thought all this time that nothing could affect me but she did. She is the only artist-and woman- who put some warmth in me. I actually harbored thoughts of searching for a girl and maybe live like a normal person, you know, get a real life, wash more often, become fitter. People say here she is an angel and other crap that I am sure she does not like but I concur that she is unique, one of a kind. Keep making other people happy Kate.

This woman is a stone cold genius. It’s something to say that I’ve lived my adult life at the same time. Imagine hearing a Beethoven or Mozart symphony or concerto for the first time - you’d surely know that you were a witness to something historic and timeless. Or like my mum as a teenager in Liverpool and seeing the Beatles in ‘63.

Kate's own words about this song: "It was written in the “old way” where I wrote it on the piano at home and kept it in my head rather than writing it onto tape. It was an attempt for me to get back to my “roots” where I had to see if I could still just sit with myself at the piano and write a song without having the outside influence of “technology”. It was interesting for me. I feel my dearest memories have been spent with people I love, those things that still make me laugh, the people that have touched me. The song is saying thanks to those friends of mine who were fun to be with, some of whom aren’t alive any more - though they are still alive in my memories. There was a wonderful moment when I was writing the song. I was working with the memory of visiting Michael Powell in New York when it had started to snow - I looked up while playing the song through and it was starting to snow."

LYRICS: Some moments that I've had Some moments of pleasure I think about us lying Lying on a beach somewhere I think about us diving Diving off a rock into another moment The case of George the Wipe Oh God, I can't stop laughing This sense of humour of mine It isn't funny at all Oh, but we sit up all night talking about it Just being alive It can really hurt And these moments given Are a gift from time On a balcony in New York It's just started to snow He meets us at the lift Like Douglas Fairbanks Waving his walking stick But he isn't well at all The buildings of New York Look just like mountains through the snow Just being alive It can really hurt And these moments given Are a gift from time Just let us try To give these moments back To those we love To those who will survive And I can hear my mother saying "Every old sock meets an old shoe" Ain't that a great saying? "Every old sock meets an old shoe" Here come the hills of time Hey there, Maureen Hey there, Bubba Dancing down the aisle of a plane Smurph, playing his guitar refrain Hey there, Teddy Spinning in the chair at Abbey Road Hey there, Michael Do you really love me? Hey there, Bill Could you turn the lights up?

I’ve commented before on this but would like to add that to tap into people’s minds and hearts and souls feelings that we’ve all had as human beings even before ever hearing this song is utter genius and very rare. Great art holds up a mirror to our feelings and the human condition and Kate Bush has taken those emotions and feelings we all at times have and has turned them into music and words. Art on a higher level than most songwriters. This is actually genius imo

So we've just entered another corona lockdown. I started browsing youtube looking for comfort, distraction, anything to stop me feeling. I'm worried about my job and how I'll get my kids through this. I don't know how I came by this song, haven't heard it in many years. I've always loved Kate's work. But today, after listening to it again 'Moments of Pleasure' makes so much more sense. And yeah, I didn't want to feel, but oh boy, I don't have a choice. I'm a big grown man, but it's nice to have a cry, it's been many years. Suddenly I feel some hope, I think I can get my family through this after all. I've no doubt Kate wrote this for herself, and herself only. But looking at the comments, it's deeply affected so many. And I didn't realise until today, I really needed to connect with this song again. As an artist, she should be proud.
