This song has never failed to reduce me to tears in the most magical, tender way. The fact that she referenced her mother's saying "Every old sock, meets an old shoe" when her mother was very ill at the time of recording and later passed away is heart-rending along with the role call off all those she loved and lost that span around her in the snow....some just out of reach leaves me breathless. Such beauty...."Just being alive, it can really hurt. These moments given are a gift from time. Just let us try to give these moments back, to those we love, to those who will survive".....so beautiful. Thank you for reacting to this gorgeous song.

Kate Bush slays. She takes no prisoners. Her appreciation in the US has been waiting for 40 years. And here it is, sweet and gentle, and fierce.

The reference to Bill at the end was for a lighting manager at one of early shows, who fell to his death, which deeply affected Kate for a long time, and yes she is unbelievable.

I just wanted to add some information for you about the people Kate memorializes in this song. Obviously, there's her mother Hannah, who I believe was ill with cancer at the time of recording and died shortly after. The others, mentioned during the "snowy" scene at the end of the video, are: - Maureen: Kate's aunt - "Bubba": Gary Hurst, one of her dancers from the 1979 tour, who died of AIDS in 1990 - "'S Murph": her guitarist Alan Murphy, who also died of AIDS in 1989 - "Teddy": John Barrett, assistant engineer at Abbey Road Studios for the albums Never for Ever and The Dreaming - Michael: Michael Powell, director of the 1948 film The Red Shoes, which inspired the album - Bill: Bill Duffield was a young lighting engineer who tragically fell to his death in a freak accident on the '79 tour

You nailed the aspect of Kate's music which drew me to her immediately; the whimsicality. She's such a special artist. I love your appreciation of her. And I love your hair and makeup. 💜

This is one of the three of her songs that have been known to make me cry, along with 'This Woman's Work' and 'Under the Ivy'. The 'hills of time' section at the end where she says goodbye to people she had recently lost, along with Bill Duffield at the very end, is devastatingly beautiful.

Kate made a short film called The line the cross and the curve. It's based around the songs from her album The red shoes, this is one of the songs and why there was talking at the beginning of it. The title song The red shoes, Lily and Eat the music are just some of the great tracks from it, well worth a listen 🙂

This song would not be out of place as the centerpiece song in a Broadway musical. There's such a theatrical quality to it.

Besides that Kate's genius musician, vocalist, producer, arranger, a LEGEND, she's so feminine and such a beautiful woman. Her movements are so fluid and graceful. Especially in this video. This song is a gem (like each one of her songs) and it's so moving - I'm in tears everytime I listen to it.😄♥️ Greetings to you from Poland and thank you for your nice reaction. 😀

Yes. Honest and straightforward is exactly right. She's not disguising anything and the way she composed the music with its sweeping yet quiet emotion is a sonic sharing of real remembrances.

Kate won't let anyone die. They never die if they are alive within you. People who altered the course of your life by being kind enough to give you some of their precious time should be held dearly in your heart and memory. Try to remember their stories and the experiences shared, or at least their unique smiles and laughter. They're still alive, forever.

The first bit of odd dialogue is an excerpt from the red shoes-inspired movie she made. It only makes sense in that context. On the album, there is no dialogue.

Oh, lovely ❤😊 I notice you've grown quite keen on Kate's music and visuals 😇 The Red Shoes is one of my favourite albums of hers. There's a short film 🎬 with some songs turned into videos, there's a story line that connects the songs... It is a journey to hell and back... I guess you should see it one day too ☺ Thank you for spending the time with Kate 👍🤝

Probably my favourite Kate Bush song of all, and there's some tough competition. It's like the last word on everything, the sum total of what - in the end - we each amount to and what matters most in life when all is said and done.

A few years ago I had my closest relatives die, then was on the cusp of losing my job after being accused of something I hadn’t done. I went on a downward spiral and was ready to check out, but ended up in a psych ward for 6 weeks instead. Most of the 6 weeks was spent in bed listening to Moments of Pleasure, the Hounds of Love album, and Annie Lennox’s ‘Bare’ album. That album is very heavy and doesn’t have any promo videos as her mother died just as it was released, then Lennox caught flu and couldn’t sing to promote it. Lennox herself was in a very bad place when she wrote it so it was just what I needed at that time in my life to unravel and make sense of the contents of my head, and eventually plan an escape route. It’d be exaggerating to say these records saved my life, but they definitely aided my recovery. Only Kate Bush could write a miserable song about everyone who she’s adored who has died, and release it as a single. The world would be more austere without her in it. Fun fact - that little microphone that hooks on pop stars ears and sits in front of their mouth was invented for Kate Bush with her direction, as she wanted to be able to dance in her 70s concerts without holding a mic.
