This was not her most successful song when it was released, and it was not her first #1 in the UK. Her song Wuthering Heights spent 4 weeks at #1 in 1978. Also, in the song Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God,) she was the only one to have made the deal with God.
@rainerzufall422 жыл бұрын
Just a very small correction: It's her second #1 single in the UK. The 44 years between now and 1978 "Wuthering Heights" #1 is also record breaking, just as her 63 years and 11 months of age for the oldest female to have a UK #1 (#5 overall, behind Elton John and three others). She was also the youngest female to have a #1 (is irony the word?) and the first female with a self written #1 song!
@rainerzufall422 жыл бұрын
Forgot to say: This time, it was Harry Styles, back then, it was no other than ABBA to be removed from the top spot for a 4 week run on #1 for Kate Bush...

@@rainerzufall42 It’s crazy that I remember this song when it first came out! And TBH, I love it just as much as I did back in the 1980s!
@rainerzufall422 жыл бұрын
@@SeanShimamoto Same for me. After "The Dreaming", Kate Bush vanished a little bit from German TV and radio, but RUTH brought us back the "new Kate". I remember a pretty long introduction by the late Stefanie Tücking on "Formel Eins" (formula one, most important chart show of that time, 1983 to 1990). She spoke about "The Dreaming" and that Kate Bush is now back. Then they showed the video of RUTH. That's, how I remember it. IIRC, that song stayed in the German Charts for half a year! It swear, it has a kind of magical tune, I never really got, why it is such a mesmerizing song! (I could tell by analysis, but it's more a heartfelt thing!)

@@rainerzufall42 We’re getting old!!! Hehe. The big 5-0 is coming up for me next July 2nd! But if I’m being honest, I’m not only happy with my age, but I feel blessed to have enjoyed music from the 1970s & 1980s, ‘cause I think we got to listen to some of the best music, ever, and we got to listen to those songs during those eras! As much as I love technology, there was something magical about opening up a new vinyl record or CD & first putting them on a record player or putting them in a portable CD player for the first time. It’s hard to explain, I think you just had to be alive at the time to really understand…I’m sure you know what I mean. Anyway, sending love & aloha from Honolulu to you and your entire ohana! 😄🤙🏽❤️🌈☀️ (just Hawaiʻi symbols)

My Nan died in 2021, and I found out this was one of her favourite songs. Around that time I started running, and I have a distinct memory of running in the rain up the hill listening to this song, praying to my nanna. And a month later I met the love of my life, and I left my abusive marriage. I look back now and cry at how powerful this song was in my life. She’s still guiding me up that hill, with less problems. ❤
@jhatjolegalo2 жыл бұрын
Everyone should swap places with everyone. We live In a world where only God knows our problems and most people don't care about each other. That makes the song so powerful as if it's a fight against an eternal adversity. Hills and mountains are there to be climbed and problems are there to overcome..

80's music sounds futuristic, perhaps because of the synth and the chord choices.
@albertoj.mollinedo41162 жыл бұрын
No, is because for the most part, music of the last 20 years have been utter trash. Rap, pop, and some electronic is garbage 95% of the time. We got things going on in music like the millennium woop, and 90% of pop music composed by a hidden author and such. Every now and then an artist comes up with a good song though.

I was also thinking, that Max was using this song as an emotional connection to her and Billy because she Felt bad about what happened to him in season three with the mind flayer and That if she didn’t worry then he would still be alive, But he ended up dying so she used this song as a way to express herself and it has a deeper meaning to her saying to herself if she could she’ll swap her spots with billy and he would still be alive

I’ve got a crazy theory kinda long sorry but so you know how you be hearing about a secret cult that runs The music industry/Hollywood that ask for you to sell you soul and make sacrifices example Kanye lost his mom so did 50 Dr Dre lost his brother should KZbin the crossroads short with James brown and Gary old man for reference anyway if I recall correctly didn’t Sam pray for Billy to die as well? Also infinity war to get the soul stone he had to sacrifice something he loved to get something in return not sure how Sam profited but what are you thoughts

I heard it years ago, but it was Placebo's cover (which I still love probably more). Being a non-native English speaker, I perceived the meaning differently. Like a person wanting to swap places with their loved one to save them (from suffering, for example) and put themselves in that vulnerable position instead. Like a healthy parent wishing to swap places with their sick child and that they would do anything for it. Does this even make sense? Dunno.

I also read the Katie Bush was going back between being upset/happy with the use of the song being incorporated with the theme of Stranger Things. If you think about it if Stranger Things didn't do that her song wouldn't be this popular towards this generation. The songs meaning also plays very well with this seasons storyline too. 👌

I remember hearing it on oldie stations when parents would drive us around from errand to errand. I was always so confused as to why it wasn’t as popular as other 80s songs, it had everything/ it did get over played a lil which is normal with radio which is when I started to hate it lol. I’m happy she has this kind of resurgence that she absolutely deserves! This reminds me of dogma by Kevin smith or George Carlin’s criticism of religion or even marina abromivic(?) and how it becomes buried and we never know about these great artists bc of how shitty and corrupt religion and censorship truly can be.
