This beautiful song is one of Kate Bush's earliest compositions and was written way before it featured on her first album The Kick Inside.
When asked what the song was about Kate said "I wrote The Saxophone Song because, for me, the saxophone is a truly amazing instrument. Its sound is very exciting - rich and mellow. It sounds like a female. I think of a beautiful sax like a human being, a sensuous shining man being taken over by the instrument. The perfect setting was this smokey bar in Berlin with nobody listening except me in a corner, the streams of light flashing off it to me."

2.26 and 3.35 She went FULL Kate Bush there like I've never seen before, all mysterious, coy and moody all at the same time. I've always adored this song. To be honest, I think that Lionheart was a fantastic follow up, her most explicitly theatrical album with the most dark humour. It didn't have the lightness of touch nor prog rock feel of The Saxophone Song but it was an expansion of what interested Kate Bush at that time or as a child, particularly campy British horror movies and humour and theatricalness.

[Verse 1] You'll find me in a Berlin bar in a corner, brooding You know that I go very quiet when I'm listening to you There's something special indeed There's something special indeed [Pre-Chorus 1] In all the places where I've seen you shine, boy There's something very real in how I feel, honey [Chorus] It's in me, it's in me And you know it's for real Tuning in on your saxophone Da-bah-da-bah-doo... [Verse 2] The candle burning over your shoulder is throwing Shadows from your saxophone, a surly lady in tremor The stars that climb from her bowels Those stars make towers on vowels [Pre-Chorus 2] You'll never see that you had all of me You'll never see the poetry you've stirred in me Of all the stars I've seen that shine so brightly I've never known or felt in myself so rightly [Chorus] It's in me, it's in me And you know it's for real Tuning in on your saxophone Da-bah-da-bah-doo...

A lot of those sax runs sound like the stuff played on a Caravan song called Can't Be Long Now from 1970. Beautiful playing on both tracks.

'George Michael - Careless Whisper', 'Al Stewart - Year of the Cat', ' oder 'Gary Rafferty - Baker Street').
