This song was written for the film "She's having a baby" - the context is that the song is sung from the perspective of a father-to-be, who has been told that his wife is struggling with problems giving birth. He is waiting for news, hoping that his wife will pull through and that the baby will be safely delivered.

@@brian5154 "This Woman's Work" is a song written and performed by the British singer Kate Bush. It was initially featured on the soundtrack of the American film She's Having a Baby (1988). The song was released as the second single from her album The Sensual World in 1989 and peaked at 25 in the UK Singles Chart.

@@brian5154 Nope. Written for the film. I had the cd and the song credits list written in 1988. It was a John Hughes movie so it had a very hip soundtrack with alternative and 'new wave' 80s artists of the time.

Given your music background, I'm shocked that you're not more familiar with Kate Bush. She's a legend in the UK, and has many long-time fans here in US. I suggest you start with her early works that helped establish her. The song that's given her current notoriety, Running Up That Hill, was composed later. Just a tremendous singer, songwriter, and performer.

Hello Dani, I know not every song by Kate Bush is everyone's cup of tea. However, if you liked this song you would like Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush, Don't Give Up. Beautiful and very emotional song. Elton John is friends with Kate Bush and he said that at his lowest point that song by Peter Gabriel and Kate helped pull himself out the bad place that he was in at the time. Beautiful song.
