In my personal fan fic: years later their daughter, who is an estate lawyer like her mother used to be, goes to England and encounters a ghost at an old country inn from WW1 who died protecting his sniper comrads. After hearing that she will be missing Christmas, obviously a special family tradition at the Inn (Daniel went to school for a business degree, and Rafferty gave his share of the inn to him to keep his promise of helping Daniel, and after a number of years, and 4 children [3 sons, and the second youngest, 1 daughter]) Kate and Daniel own the inn, but that year leave the running of the inn to their oldest two sons and with their youngest son go to suprise her. Now in their fifties, (Daniel of course acctually older)(and a few grandchildren from the oldest boys) both are happy to see their daughter getting along well with a young man, because according to Daniel, their daughter is as suborn as Kate, and doesn't get along well with people who oppose her. But as soon as Daniel is alone with the ghost, he reveals himself to the ghost as his old WW1 comarade. The ghost had lost his love of life after dying and returning to the English inn, his family home, to haunt from November 11th to the end of Christmas day.... watching the girl he loved before/during the war marry and raise a family after he had gone. Daniel helps by chatting about his own previous problems, and tells the ghost that if he finds the will to love again he could move on. Over time, and a few problems with the inn, he saw in Daniel and Kate's daughter love again, and after finding the will to give her his heart and trust his love, when she returns it, he is able to stay in this world. Kate and her daughter none the wiser to the past connection, Daniel silently thanks Lilly's spirit once again for guiding his daughter, named Lilly herself to honor the one who broght Kate to him, to her true love, and a second chance for her spirit.

This movie I have watched it many many times and it never gets old for me. This is what true love is supposed to be. Now a days a lot of people have lost the essence of what true love is, of its meaning, of its depth. Is when two souls meet one another in a deep connection like no other. It's become a thing to watch it each year around christmas by now for me and my sister ^^ And you are right, it never get's old, especially because of how they show real love. It's hard to find nowadays, for sure, but it's still possible. And this movie just gives hope for that. I simply love it.

can someone explain the ending of the movie to me?? I mean i love it but in the end i didn't understand a few of the scenes. Like when they were kissing and suddenly she feel asleep and he carried her to the couch? And in the final scene, where did he come running from and is he entirely human now? Thank you :)

I don't know much about the falling asleep, probably the "magic" of the moment? But, the end was like "a second chance". In the begging he comes home through the forest but he doesn't make it. So he remains trapped until he meets Kate. Him repeating the first scene and coming to her means his second chance. At least that's what I got. And I don't think he is still in the ghost phrase, since it is said he can not leave the inn. But in the end he left the inn through the forest behind it and made the road back to Kate. So, logically, he is human now. I mean...Christmas miracles, right?

julie kahef, remember the look on Daniel's face when he was watching Lily and Charles on Christmas Eve 1910? She wished for a Christmas miracle where Daniel would learn the value of those 12 days he wasted in Montreal. That's what he tells Harry's ghost, that it was Lily's miracle that kept him there and now he knew. If you read the recap the writer suggested he had had chloroform breath that knocked her out Christmas Eve.😀😀

She didn't die. The curse was broken and he didn't disappear at midnight on Christmas like he always had before. Instead, at the stroke of midnight, Kate passes out (because magic). Lily's ghost is finally able to move on, but tells him it's his choice whether he wants to do so or not. Kate wakes up thinking he's gone, but he chose to stay with her rather than pass on. Happy ending :)
