I can't believe she lied about how she got locked in the basement. When the truth was far from it.

why can’t you believe it? she explained to her therapist that she was scared she wouldn’t be seen as a victim or that the police would think she made the whole thing up about being locked in the basement. it was good that she lied cause otherwise it probably would’ve led to a murder case against kate. also, she still was kidnapped and locked up.
