I am now 67 and loved Kate from the first time I saw her singing Wuthering heights on Top of the Pops, I had so many posters and stuff that my girlfriend who is now my wife wouldn’t come into my bedroom, saw Kate live in Manchester in 1978 and was walking on air for weeks after, I’ve never lost my love and admiration for her and she still causes controversy between my wife and I 😂 the only thing that has made me upset is her last concert ‘Before the Dawn’ was never released on blueway or dvd as I wasn’t able to get her shows as they were all in London and as a big fan of Kate I would have thought she would have let one be made 😢

So true ! Anybody I know who’s heard it thinks it’s terrible like a lot of her songs. It’s like a strange reassurance for me, to know there are really honest feeling deep people out there. I don’t seem to hear anybody else that plunging deeper than every day
@patricklee7773 ай бұрын
Indeed. I heard this the first time one winter's day. It (the Red Shoes) had just been released (on CD!!!) and I was doing some work on my computer, so I popped it in the drive. I was half-listening... until this came on. I had to pause and listen attentively, enthralled. I knew immediately what it was about intuitively, and still remember the moment I first heard it. There are very few songs about which I can make similar claims - save perhaps "Misty Mountain Hop", which was playing on cassette when I totaled my first car. That was a different kind of experience, certainly not as haunting or beautiful. I think the former left a greater mark on me than the few superficial injuries of the latter. Dame? Sure, she's earned it. I remember her first appearance on SNL, which was widely panned but intriguing, even to a very young me.

Kate Bush, your music saves. We're a newly-homeless family, and it has gotten us through so much. Even the toddler adores you; your name was one of his first words, and he could pick your face out on our Prime library. This song is my daughter's favorite track on The Red Shoes. She said it makes her cry internally. My eldest loves your Hounds Of Love album. The Jig Of Life always centers me. Before The Dawn was the last thing we bought and it was excellent; we all wished we could have been there! Your art follows us everywhere, since we keep it in the car. Thank you for giving us moments as a family, and individuals, where we can feel whole. I love you. We all do.

I started listening to Kate Bush when I was 12 years old,I am 54 now. Reading some of the comments below,I think I know why we feel as we do when we listen to her.She translates a longing with her haunting voice and incredible songs.She brings up that feeling of melancholy,romance,love regret and time lost. But also of innocence lost and mystery. She can be an escape from all the harsh things of life,from all the disappointments we face as people every day.It is great to dive into her world and let yourself being carried on a cloud of sensuality,,sensitivity and femininity. Yes,even when you are a man.She brings the truth to us,but does it in such a gentle way. I am still very impressed with her incredible talent and staying power.This is my favorite song of her,together with saxophone song,running up that hill and night of the swallow.Thank you Kate,for making it all a little more beautiful.

I agree. This will always be her masterpiece as far as I’m concerned. That’s because, of all her songs, it speaks to the universal themes of life and death and how we cope with losing those whom we have loved. This is on the same level as Joni Mitchell’s The Circle Game and Both Sides Now. All three songs brilliantly written, deeply moving and written by women who were uncannily beyond their years.

So I took the time to search for her in YT. And listen to her songs. I thought all this time that nothing could affect me but she did. She is the only artist-and woman- who put some warmth in me. I actually harbored thoughts of searching for a girl and maybe live like a normal person, you know, get a real life, wash more often, become fitter. This woman is a stone cold genius. It’s something to say that I’ve lived my adult life at the same time. Imagine hearing a Beethoven or Mozart symphony or concerto for the first time - you’d surely know that you were a witness to something historic and timeless. Or like my mum as a teenager in Liverpool and seeing the Beatles in ‘63.

Dear god this song just wipes me out every time I hear it. One of those perfect examples of someone making the personal universal, and the universal personal, and gracefully sweeping us along with her. Thanks for posting, I had never seen the video version before
@paulwild36762 жыл бұрын
I think the genius of this song is that although it is personal to KB, we can all relate to it. The end of the video where she is swirling in the snow could be you or me and the people she has lost, could be people we have lost. That is why it makes everyone cry, because it becomes personal to those watching it. A masterpiece is an understatement. I think all this obsession with her we have seen over the last few months, is a fad, You don’t listen to KB like you would Madonna, you either get her or you don’t.

I came here to just comment as I found this after so many years. Theres is so much about this song is that is brutal about loss, discovery, wasted time and saying goodbye. It is also so beautifully painful. She manages to cut you and reach right inside and connect with your vulnerability. Im sure she will never see this comment but thank you Kate.

Thought I was the only one who watched this with a few tears in my eyes. It's so beautiful and really hit a nerve in me. What's amazing too is that it shows you don't have to have a huge production with a bunch of "featured artists" to make a great video. This is such a simple, wonderful video that connects.

I’ve commented before on this but would like to add that to tap into people’s minds and hearts and souls feelings that we’ve all had as human beings even before ever hearing this song is utter genius and very rare. Great art holds up a mirror to our feelings and the human condition and Kate Bush has taken those emotions and feelings we all at times have and has turned them into music and words. Art on a higher level than most songwriters. This is actually genius imo
