She is my favorite artist. She wrote the song and had complete control of every aspect you hear, down to the exact rhythm of the drums, its ALL her. She also does all her backing vocals. A masterpiece of a song about the congruency needed within a relationship. Just pure magic, like all her work. The dance here depicts the struggle between two people to achieve harmony.. sometimes one feels crucified as you can see in the video. It ends with her as Diana the Greek goddess of the hunt.. Again pure genius.

Bush explained in a 1985 interview: "It's about a relationship between a man and a woman. They love each other very much, and the power of the relationship is something that gets in the way. It creates insecurities. It's saying if the man could be the woman and the woman the man, if they could make a deal with God, to change places, that they'd understand what it's like to be the other person and perhaps it would clear up misunderstandings. You know, all the little problems; there would be no problem." This is so beautiful ❤

@@ste9281 It tends to be a dual between this & Wuthering Heights. I looked up a dozen or so Kate Bush top hits compilations (which are often quite silly), but those two always were changing places. But those "Best of" lists normally only deal in hit songs. This song is undeniably #1 when it comes to sales. But when you look at all of her albums & releases and you're a big fan, then it's almost impossible to choose a #1 song. It's hard to be objective & choose a best song of hers. There are so many brilliant songs that might qualify. And you're right. It was never overlooked. This album even knocked Madonna off the number 1 spot in the UK. The single reached #3. But, "The Rolling Stone", which used to be really good in the 70s and 80s, is not taken very seriously anymore. They keep changing their top hits based on current listeners & trends. The last one was in 2004 and Running Up That Hill was not on it (nor any other hit of hers).

37 years later this song hits it big. But don’t worry: Kate Bush is already worth a decent chunk of change. She owns the masters to this song for example. She made 2.5 million from Netflix alone. I’m 36 and had NO idea this song was as old as it was until I first went to download it 2 years ago. From the first time I heard this song I felt deeply emotional about the lyrics. As I had applied them to my own life at the time. However now having read Kate Bush’s explanation of what this son’s means it now has a more powerful emotional meaning. To change places with the person you love, making a deal with God, and seeing things through their eyes walking in their shoes, feeling their feelings: well that could bring a couple much closer together. No matter how much we explain how we feel and think to actually feel it would be something else. Something unfortunately unattainable. But it’s amazing to think about let alone make a song about.

Netflix did not paid her, but the producers of Strange sthing did......... It's the only song used by the show in 4 seasons to re-entered charts around the world at n °1, and n °3 at the Billboard. I only knew a handful of folks that were into Kate Bush back in the day. But you can't disguise genius. This video, I thought at the time, really is a peak moment for her, a full realization of her artistic ambitions. She wrote, arranged, played, mixed, choreographed, danced and amazingly sung this enchanting song.

What an astounded moment and exciting news to hear that Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) has topped the No.1 spot at the UK's Official Singles charts and not only. I am so thrilled for this achievement. I was 9 years old back in 1985 when this song came out, and listening to it all these years could not imagine that one day will picked at number one spot nearly everywhere. We, all, never regretted by every work you have done. Your lyrics, your music is unique for everyone of us and even for our children too. Speechless! Well done Kate!. Marios Katz xxx from Cyprus!

It is so gratifying to see a whole new generation of people discover Kate Bush. When I was in high school, a friend played me a cassette tape (hey, it was 1978) of her first album, "The Kick Inside". By the time "Hounds of Love" came out, I was a huge fan. As someone on here commented, it's strange that in the 1980s, many considered her songs and videos to be weird, but now, they make perfect sense. Guess that's one definition of being ahead of one's time.

I’ve lived a long intense relationship, love is so strong. But I never expected her to pass away from causes of cancer. I loved this song when I was young, but now - this song has a deeper meaning altogether. I’m sure I’m not the only one to go through that and I embrace people who can relate.

Experiencing 5 decades of music in real-time, I can unequivocally state that 80's is unparalleled. The absolutely best. You had the greatest diversity of selection at the highest quality. In my opinion the utilization of synth and electronic into pop was absolute perfection of synergy.

@@marlonpeters2000 I get that. But the 80s was like that every week/month that such a extremely high level song came out. Even after 40 years one can't walk into a shop, a home or a work place and *not* hear the 80s. Sometimes up to a level that it's almost unfair to the wonderfull music that has been done in this time. But such is life.

They've ruined music ON PURPOSE, which is why we're now in a cultural dead-end with this garbage called 'RAP' (CRAP) full of lower base beats, horrible ghetto-culture lyrics, no melody, no harmony, nothing that will appeal to our higher-level selves where good & beauty reside. 'RAP' is a plague of a genre that has existed for WAY too long now...

the song id actually not about that, its about how Kate thinks that if a man and a woman were able to swap places in a relationship with all the gender roles attached to it, they'r be able to understand each other better. Still, I think it can work with the interpretation stranger things gave it too
