I loved Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck. She took it to a whole new level. As someone who loved the original series, her Starbuck was phenomenal. She went above and beyond and made the character her own. Bravo.

@kobeno1: that's interesting to hear. I know ur comment is 2 years old..... I never saw the original but the remake was probably IMO the greatest series of all time. It was a sci-fi but it also had great characters, storyline n drama. I'm a sci-fi fan, but there isn't too many decent sci-fi series IMO. Katie was great as Starbuck especially bc she made it her own - as I am led to believe - but I still think James Callis as Gauis Balter was better. His character was such a kniving, pathetic, wimpy, weasel at times. Almost every scene he did was brilliant.

To be honest, I wasn't skeptical. I'd grown up on the original series, it debuted not too long before my baby sister was born. When reruns were on we'd watch them as often as possible. The big thing was really watching Starbuck, Apollo, Boomer, and Muffit because, well, they were starfighter pilots, which I thought was cool, and a robot dog (also cool). Adama was a lesser extent for me, I really wanted to see the pilots and the robot dog. When they announced the miniseries I was interested to see what it was going to be like. It didn't bug me that they'd changed some character's genders (not to mention race as well in the case of Boomer), I wanted to see if it could feel like what I'd enjoyed as a kid and a teenager. The re-imagined series is, for me, a rare instance of being as good as the original. Not better than, but as good as. And I have the complete series for both the original and the re-imagined.
@DJ_Force5 жыл бұрын
No disrespect for the actor, but this is why I never could get into the reimagining. Starbuck was really the star of the original, and they should have stayed as close to the original with that character as possible. It's like if they reimagined Star Wars, but this time Han Solo wasn't a swashbuckling ladies man, but an alcoholic lesbian with PTSD.

Loving something and enjoying something, is different to making an objective statement regarding quality. The final 3 episodes invalidate most of what made Battlestar the best show ever made. You still have those great episodes and morality plays. bit the nonsensical contradictory content of the final episode invalidated the shows intelligence. Just about every plot point doesn't make sense thanks to the final episode. It was a great ride. But whether or not you enjoy the show is not the same as its quality. One random example: Hera displayed clear overt Cylon projection powers. So? By the final episode that is irrelevant - we don't display that ability, it's meaningless and so THE ENTIRE ABILITY OF CYLONS TO PROJECT IS MEANINGLESS. What was the point? That is one of hundreds of threads the final eps could have dealt with. It's a great episode but it also makes the entire series poor.
@CrazyChemistPL10 жыл бұрын
Markus Galt I for one applaud Battlestar for having the balls of actually implementing some sort of mysticism, higher power/God and prophecies as a viable, functioning forces that drive people fates and sticking with them to the very end. I like the idea that God of some sorts is very present in that universe. It just makes the whole thing more special. As for Hera and the question of projection - I have my own explanation for that. For me it is safe to say that this trait got "diluted" during the 15000 years between Colonial survivors arriving to Earth and current times, and as such it is now reduced to not much more than vivid imagination, imagination that is perhaps more profound that imagination of average human from the "12 Colonies era". And for some people this trait manifests itself more visibly, in form of the eidetic memory. But overally I agree - this explanation may be viewed as far-fetched, and whole aspect of Hera being able to project is a weak point. Like I said - I wrote what I feel, and one rather cannot force himself or herself to feel different, don't you think?

I didn't have cable tv when the series came out, but I binge watched it in 2011 online. Maybe 2-3 episodes per night. Now, in 2022, I just got done watching it again. First of all I can't even believe that it had been 11 years since I had watched it the first time. Secondly, it's amazing that when I watched it the first time, I was still coming to it 2 years after it had ended, but it's always held up well to time. The story, the character development, and the acting were tremendous, but even the special effects still hold up well when watched all these years later. A big part of the reason I connected with Katee's Starbuck character, is that she not only looked somewhat like, but also had the disposition much like a particular hard drinking, fighting, cussing, blonde female soldier I served with in the army stationed in Germany. The kind who would take it as a personal challenge to out drink you, and fight you like a man in the bar, and could throw a haymaker as good as most of the guys. I know, because she bloodied one pretty big guy in the barracks who was trying to assault her once. He was a legit 'roid head lifter type, but she rung his bell and left his blood splattered on the wall of the hallway. Saw it happen myself. But then I invited her to punch me once in a drunken challenge down at the base bar to see how hard she could punch, and she did... in the face. It wasn't nothing. LOL But she was still a much better soldier than you might have expected given her behavior off duty. And not a female trying to act tough like the guys. One who actually was tough. It's like they lifted Kara Thrace's character straight from the Christina Thomas I knew.

Why the hell didn't they pipe in AC inside the vipers? Portable units are cheap and compact these days. _"Make it happen, Chief!"_
@Dream0Asylum5 жыл бұрын
Noise and "just one more thing to go wrong" are the practical reasons. Then there's politics where if one person gets AC then everybody has to have AC for everything. Then there's just the pressure to keep production costs down. An AC unit isn't just a box that blows cold air for $300, it's also the guy that hauls it around, the two guys responsible for it working at all times, ect ect. If Tom Cruise has to sweat his ass off in full kit, inside a plywood box painted like a spaceship then what hope does poor little Katee have?

Well, yeah, if you want to avoid spoilers you should probably avoid watching interviews, or just about anything else to do with a show, when you are watching seasons that originally aired years ago. ...as i reply to a comment that originally posted years ago...
