I’m so very thankful I get to eat the food at work. I work at a homeless shelter and we have a full kitchen. Most of the time I don’t work in the kitchen though I do the laundry in the ladies restroom. But by putting in the extra effort and helping out with the dishes in the kitchen even when I don’t have to I pretty much don’t have to pay for food I can have ribs for dinner or spaghetti or whatever it is that we’re serving and it’s definitely worth putting in the effort to do a little extra work and it save me a lot of money

Hi Kate! Most days, my work schedule allows me time to walk 6-9miles prior and on my days off, I try to push it to 12 miles. I’m not hungry before, so I go with it and don’t have my first meal until after 12. I eat a simple, nutritious lunch at home and a light supper on workdays. Walking has replaced spending in my life - not enough time and I’m tired!😉 I’ve lost a lot of weight too😃 I’m also transitioning to a capsule wardrobe.

Fellow Mainer here! Fall and winter, I always make a homemade soup for the week that can be used for one dinner and several lunches. (Good way to use up odd bits of food and non-meat proteins like lentils, split peas, and beans.) Spring and summer, it’s a salad: chicken salad, potato salad with bacon or ham, caprese, pasta salad with a protein, etc. Helps a lot with unexpected schedule changes and the nights I’m too tired or it’s too hot to cook. I get dinner ready, as much as makes sense, before lunch - most days. That way if I get tired in the afternoon and don't feel like cooking, I'm not tempted to ask my husband to bring something home for dinner. Very easy to throw something in the microwave or oven that I prepped in the morning. Or have something in the slow-cooker that I put together when my husband leaves for work. I try to do as much as possible early in the morning when I am full of energy and enthusiasm, so that when that same energy and enthusiasm are nowhere to be found late in the day, all I have to do are the "finishing touches". One thing I do (not daily but maybe weekly/biweekly) is keep a running inventory of everything in the pantry, fridge, and freezer. That way if I'm at the store and I only need 1 or 2 things to complete a meal, I minimize what I'm buying and also don't buy duplicates. Has worked beautifully to cut down on food waste, especially with fresh fruits and veggies. I also like going onto sites where you input what you have on hand and it suggests meals from that. I WISH my Target had wine. I live in PA and only some of our grocery store are beginning to sell wine. But when it does make it to Target, you best believe I'm scooping all of that up! I love the idea of bringing it as a gift (and you're not breaking the bank!).

When my kids were young, their favorite meal was chili, topped with shredded cheese and sour cream. We then scooped up the food with Fritos Scoop Chips (no forks allowed!). As I always kept chili & rice in the cupboard, as a last resort, we could always have chili over rice. My kids are now adults and they still love this meal (my DIL, who is a chef, thinks we are a little nuts…and yes, we are!). The joke in my home is “I only have a kitchen because it came with the house!” I laughed when you stated that you wake up with no intention to spend money. With me, I get paid on the first so this is the one day I spend (all budgeted). Mortgage, utilities, car payment, insurance and groceries! All paid and the cupboards have been filled.

Liking and commenting helps Kate's channel so it's a 100% free way of offering support to her if you cannot afford to join the channel or support Kate with the merch! It's a phenomenon all over KZbin that at best it seems 1 in 10 people will click on the "Thumbs Up", but it does help! It's my way of saying "Thank you, I value your content". Mwahahahahahaa! Buns! That ol' camera hog! He cracks me up. Do you think maybe he thinks he's in charge of the channel or something? He's always close by, isn't he? I'm not at all surprised the channel is growing - it deserves to! It's one of the very best in terms of frugal/thrifty living, and the only downside for me is that I'm in the UK and you're in the USA so sometimes there are differences that mean what you say won't work for me. And that is 100% fine by me, because the quality of content is high and always worth watching. Thank you! Hi, Buns!!! Happy Frugal Friday to my favorite internet kitty. 💚 Love his motorboat purring. I plan my meals for the month. Yes, the month. Because when I was doing weekly, I was getting too lazy to do the next week. If I put down a month in advance, I can look at the calendar and move things around, depending on what we're doing and what's going on. I'm not beholden to the calendar. It's mostly an ideas list. This month, I admit, I'm doing more meal box kits than usual, but I have been back into work, and it's meant I'm more fried when I get home. So I consider them an investment in my sanity. But I only do that 3x/week, and I'm only doing 3 this month. If I don't like the meals, though, I do not have a problem skipping that week (which is why it's 3x and not 4x this month). Last month I was just too stressed and we ate out more than I wanted. But having these backups, especially from a place I like and does some of the prep for me, it's fabulous. And then I can spend more time with my baby and husband too. I put smiley faces on the calendar next to meals I've tried for the first time that we like so I can incorporate it in the next month or a next meal or whatever. And I sit down with that month's calendar the next month when I'm working on that. And I put in easy meals too, don't get me wrong. I make pasta and meatballs way too often. But I also invested in a cookbook that's called "cook once, eat all week" thing. It's going pretty well. She does have some high expectations sometimes, but if I have the time to dedicate to the proper meal prep, it's a lifesaver. But if I don't, and I have to do it on the fly that night, it kinda sucks. So it's been hit or miss. But that's just me, and I would overall endorse the cookbook if you have time to do the meal prep properly.

One time several years ago, my daughter kept track of what she was spending on coffee on her way to work and then at work. It added up to being over $100 for the month!

Oh yes, tracking the spending reveals so much:)

We seriously think the same and I have one son too. 😊

My son and I drink the water from the tab. It is drinking water here in Bavaria. So I only buy Apple juice. I never drink alcohol during the week. I start the washing machine nearly daily. So I saved thousands in buying less clothes, especially for my son. He has only two pair of quality jeans. He wears one, the other one is drying in meantime.

Why wash every day, then?
@kerstinshadow22103 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl, I meant, you can own less clothes, when you wash more often. For example: You need 14 pair of socks, when you wash them every second week. You only need 4 pairs, if you start the washing machine twice a week. All the best for you!

Hello, this is off topic. But I wonder if you have ever heard of Grander water? The founder was from your area I think.

Our all family, especially our two teenagers, love walking. They totally refuse to go by bus anywhere, no matter how long the distance is 😊. So proud of them 💕

I agree with you. It is refreshing to come across a young woman who isn't using KZbin as their. "I'm ready for my close up, Mr. DEMille moment." Perhaps you are too young to know who Norma Desmond was. There's an old movie about her with WilliamHolden. Cheers to you in the UK. I'm from across the pond myself, Ireland.
