I will never understand this "you shouldn't expect others to make you happy". But when you are in a relationship don't you want to see the other is making an effort for you, that you are loved and cared for? "Oh, you can do whatever you want, even sleep with other women, my happiness doesn't depend on you." I don't know. I think we are social beings and our happiness depends on how we are treated by others. If you are paralyzed in bed, seeing the family is there for you, brings a bit of happiness. Being beaten by your husband while you're sick, it adds to suffering.
