Dubstep's been around even longer than that, 1999-2001 was a proto-dubstep style, darker garage sound, 2001-2006 you had many labels pushing dubstep (Tempa, Hyperdub, Hotflush, DMZ, Big Apple), pioneers playing at FWD>> coming together from different genres. People forget about those years because records are hard to find, but Loefah, DMZ, Vex'd, Kode9, Skream, Benga, Hatcha, so many proper records from 2001-2005, some of my favorites still. I agree with you on the rest, genres don't get stale.
