Kathak Vandana - "Dhrupad" by Sanika Deodhar and Aboli Thatte

Dhrupad is a genre in Hindustani classical music from the Indian subcontinent .It is the oldest style of major vocal styles associated with Hindustani classical music, Haveli sangeet and also related to the South Indian Carnatic tradition. Dhrupad probably derives from 'dhruvapada' mentioned in Natyashstra to denote structured songs.It is spiritual, heroic,thoughtful, embedding moral wisdom or solemn form of song- music combination.
In this presentation , a traditional invocation to Lord Ganesha praising him, while recalling the special attributes of his personality ! Ganesha is Omniscient, Omni potent and a widely revered as the "Vighneshwara"- remover of obstacles and more generally as Lord of beginnings and patron of arts and sciences. He is a divine flute Player, dancer, and percussionist. He is the supreme of intellect and wisdom and is honored at the start of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as the embodiment of good luck.
The present "Dhrupad"is set to an unusual time cycle of Seven and half beats called "Taal Neel" and is composed and choreographed by Late. Guru. Pandita.Dr. Rohini Bhate ji.
