This was great! IMO, Katherine wanted to believe Elena was just like her, because that would validate all the selfish, nasty, horrible things she's done in the name of survival. But time after time, Elena proved her wrong. She always put the lives of the people she loved above her own and she had a lot of love in her heart and an almost inhuman capacity to forgive. Katherine was a selfish, manipulative bitch; Elena, OTOH, was practically a saint.
