Hi Kathleen! As a former truck driver, who always drove team, one driver sleeps while the other gets ready to drive. Drivers have things to do in truck stops that take way more than 30 minutes. Trailers are 53 feet long. We can't hear or feel anything going on at the back of the rig. Theft of merchandise out of trucks is astronomical. Love your pubcasts!!!
@j-fo47532 жыл бұрын
My brother drives a delivery truck full of nothing but Printer Paper...that's all that any thief will get if he gets his load taken. The paper is in Bankers Boxes and extremely heavy, so they won't be able to carry more than one box each, even if it's a gang. Yes, paper can be resold, but its not your typical item thieves will enjoy once they figure out its not cash or anything they'll make their drug & gun money on attempting to sell on the streets. (His daily route takes him along the South Shore of Lake Michigan, and includes Gary, Ind & the south side of Chicago with several stops.Yikes!)😟😣 🚛 Say a prayer for all our truck drivers safety 🚚

Can you sing a SchoolHouse Rock song on every Pubcast? “The shot heard round the world was the start of the revolution…take your rifles, take your guns, report to General Washington…” Lolly could get some adverbs, poor Bill could sit on Capitol Hill and we could learn the function of conjunctions. Let’s see how long it takes children of 70s Saturday morning cartoons to get those songs out of their heads.

Kathleen I just love your pubcasts! My birthday is January 4th, which was the suckiest birthday when I was a kid. People are SO done with celebrating, and of course there was often the, “this is your Christmas/birthday present,” single gift excuse from aunts and uncles. However, as an adult, I’ve discovered the advantages of having that birthdate, hotels are at least half the price they were a month before and holiday themed events sometimes still have performances and available tickets. So as an adult I have a good excuse to celebrate in early January! So you’ll be coming to San Francisco then, right?? (Sigh) if not, maybe I can take advantage of those lower priced hotels and flights and come to see you! 😃❤️

When you’re a truck driving team one sleeps while the other drives often they do have to have their meals in the restaurant at the flying J. Also what often happens when you’re sleeping in the berth of a semi is it is left running for air conditioning or heat and you sleep in there with a lot of white noise in the background. Might not hear what is happening outside.

I’m sad to hear any schools still allow corporal punishment. I’ve actually looked into which countries don’t even allow parents to use this. I think too often we just allow abuse to go on until it becomes too extreme to pass off as discipline no kid should be forced to live like that. I went to Catholic school in NY for 12 years and was never ever hit at school. They actually had a “zero tolerance” policy for hitting even among students. We were told as freshman that you are never to put your hands on another student or would be expelled. In fact my high school in particular was always a safe and supportive refuge from problems at home. I think we don’t realize how many children feel safer at school than home and more corporal punishment isn’t the answer. How about investing in better social services and figuring out why a student is acting out? No just hit it 😔

I was in 3rd grade in 1988 and my teacher was the meanest woman i ever met. She gave my best friend a paddling for forgetting to bring her ruler to school for math. She also paddled a kid for failing a spelling test which was horrible because everyone in the class knew he was slow and couldn't help it. The paddle in question was a big heavy polished piece of wood with holes drilled into it. She made the kids bend over her desk in front of the whole class and gave them several swats. We never made fun of anyone who got a paddling because we knew it could just as easily been any one of us. That teacher was psychotic and unpredictable as hell. I used to turn my mom's alarm off so she wouldn't wake up in enough time to make me get on the bus to school.
