This music brings back wonderful memories of when I played in a polka band in Mansfield Ohio with my "surrogate" older brother, Ronnie Kunz on accordion, my uncle Frederick Martin Bidinger on sax & clarinet and my beloved Daddy, Frank Emil Miller on drums...not to mention our Heavenly Angel, Tommy Grohol, on guitar. We were never as "glitzy" as our Cleveland Brethren who captured the majority of the polka spotlight; HOWEVER, we were just as talented and captured gigs every weekend...dances, weddings and Eastern European celebrations. I am now the only surviving member. Lonely? You're damned right, I'm lonely. However, as a strong woman, I keep going...not only for me, but for THEM. And my memories not only keep me strong; they sustain me now and they will forever.

The reason Mexicans might like this is because they enjoy the way the button box is played by Slovenian accordionists, that's why. So if it's familiar to our neighbors to the South of us then they have studied how to play their accordions from us Slovenes. And there are Mexican groups who love Croatian music and vice versa. It's a wonderful thing that countries can share each other's music and blend it into their own culture.

Nice to hear a polka played at this tempo, the modern polka bands are going to that push, pull drag style--this is the way a true polka should be played.

Hi Joe, either you are confused or I am. I was replying to jessielover12, that said they sounded like they belong to a circus. I met Ron a couple of months ago at a party put on by Eddie & Kim Rodick and think he is a Great player and a fun guy to be around. I have yet to meet Kathy, but I hope that I get the chance some day. I know and play with many of the players in this area, (Barberton- Clev. and love em all. They are fun people and great to be around. I hope this straightens things out.

This is good stuff! You can't beat a plain old button box without the electronics screwing it up! Being played here as God intended!

Yournutz- I was told by a "Slovenian" that the Spanish enslaved some captured Slovenians and they influenced the Mexican accordion music - an old Slov or such might be able to clarify it. His remark was in regards to my liking both the Mexican and Pole music. Wish I could recall more of his remarks but age does not help. Love this music tho and I am a "Hoosier" never exposed prior to befriending a Pole friend. Regards- houdeany

Gee...what do you have against the banjo? In this tune? Any polka? or banjos in general? Jerry Krahn, plectrum banjo; Meisner(s), Gralak and quite a few others.
