Heilung (German for healing) is classified as an experimental folk band with music that is based on runic inscriptions and text from the Iron and Viking Age. Their founding is rather interesting. Vocalist Kai Uwe Faust worked as a tattoo artist and offered free tattoos to producer Christopher Juul in exchange for help recording some poems. They were joined by Jul's girlfriend Maria Franz to form Heilung in 2015. they use traditional musical instruments, including bones (including a human forearm bone), drums, horn rattles, stringed instruments, and whistles with lyrics from both modern and ancient languages.

Anoana is a tale of a young girl, a protector of the land. The band used an old script type language that even they do not fully understand. They said this is the beginning of a story not yet told. It is up for interpretation. Pretty much all their stuff is that way. Always beautiful though.
@tokemjuju82505 ай бұрын
yup your right, the young girl was the most powerful shaman according to them because of her birth during an eclipse they thought she could fend off Ragnarok otherwise known as the (apocalypse) but the inscription for where they came up with this ritual from most of it was destroyed but what I said before about her being born during an eclipse and her fending off Armageddon was the only thing that was actually known and the reason for the eclipse thing is if you know anything about Ragnarok it was said that in simplified terms when the sun is blotted from the sky that would mark the starting of Ragnarok, and since Anoana was born during this "Eclipse" and she was born as a shaman they seen the eclipse as the beginning of Ragnarok and when the end never came they seen that as Anoana having saved them from Armageddon...

Seeing HEILUNG live is simply a special experience! You should watch other videos from HEILUNG! BTW: She is a deer goddess... is not a bad description at all. The song is about nature and togetherness and solidarity. The man on the ground with the deep singing is a shaman!

The lyrics are based on runic inscriptions found on bracteate coins, during the "Migration Period" of Europe. (300ish to 800ish A.D.) The "official music video" gives off a different vibe, but just as STUNNING. I'm going to see them in Stuttgart, Germany when I travel to Europe in September. :)

The European metalheads landed here in search of harder, faster and louder. Co-founder Kai Uwe Faust is a Death Metal fan and the typical Death growls are an integral part. The logo is metal, they also release on a metal label and perform at metal festivals, among other things. Stylistically they belong to Nordic Ritual Folk: Healing | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live)

Heilung use mostly dead languages for their songs, like Old Norse and Porto-German. They're less a band, than a group of historical reenactors, performing what they think their ancestors did for music a thousand years ago in northern Europe. Costumes and instruments are all hand made from natural materials.

The instrument is called a tagelharpa, sort of like a harp that you use a bow. Check out her "Hour of the Wolf" song which is trad Norwegian. The group is trying to re-inact rituals from two to three thousand years ago in Northern Europe. Look upon this as indigenous European, shamanistic culture.

Me and a friend of mine got to see them in concert last year and I've never experience a spiritual awakening or something to that nature, but I think what I felt walking out of the theater was close to that. I just remember walking out with my mind blown and have been waiting for them to come back through my area again, because I would definitely go again. I've been listening to their music for the last couple of years and they just calm you down and make you feel great.
@dougel47097 ай бұрын
They describe themselves as 'amplified history'. Many of their lyrics come for coins and such trinkets found in archeological digs around Scandinavia. Much of which hasn't ever been translated if I remember right. I hear that they hand make many, if not all, of their instruments and costumes. Their name is pronounced "Hei" (like the greeting "Hi") and "lung" (like the breathing organ as it is spelled, but with the 'lu' sounding more one half of Lulu's name.). And they are indeed like nothing you've ever heard before. An interesting, haunting, and addicting rabbit hole to dive into.

As much as I like Heilung's live performances (which are always great) in my opinion it is better to watch their official music videos. This makes it usually easier to understand what they are singing about even without understanding the words. They use a lot of languages in their music, including German, English, Gothic, Old High German, Icelandic, Latin, Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Viking age Old Norse and their music is based on runic inscriptions and texts from the early medieval period. The noun Heilung is German btw and means healing.
