Some of the best 10 minutes on KZbin. A fantastic band with Terry Williams just KILLING it on drums - he pushed them hard, and you can see Knopfler looking back and laughing like hes saying "We'd better pick it up boys!" and man do they ever. It's subjective but I feel the 1985 tour, concerts and band were the pinnacle, as shown in the Wembley and Sydney concert videos on here, but i'm probably biased as I saw them in Birmingham a couple of weeks after the wembley shows. It has to be said though that this was when bands wern't afraid of work, and before a "residency" was a thing. Some really big name bands, most recently Bon Jovi and Greenday say they are doing a UK tour and play 2 stadium dates for the whole country, playing to maybe 60000 at each. On the Brothers in Arms tour Dire Straits played something like 13 nights at wembley, 9 at NEC Birmingham as well as quite a few other arenas in the country, and did this in most of the countries they played, when they got to the end of the run they went back to the beginning and started again, the tour lasted 2 years if memory serves.

I really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing! My dire straight story. It was my second year at college in Boston, week of midterms, Tuesday or Wednesday I believe, 6:30 p.m. . A friend of two of my roommates comes in and says he has won two tickets via a radio DJ to tonight's "Brothers In Arms" tour show (1986) at the Boston garden and he can't find anyone to go with him because of midterms. The concert starts in about an hour and a half and these two guys both say no, he looks at me and says would you want to go? I responded in a heartbeat yes even though I had two midterms the next day. We picked up the tickets at the door. I couldn't believe it They were 6th row center on the floor. I've never been so close to a major rock and roll band for such a long time, it was absolutely unforgettable. His fingers fly, no pick... Folks didn't want to leave they came back out for a second encore song. It was really a very well done show. I didn't do all that well on those two midterms but it was worth it.

Those jackets with the padding in the shoulders and a loose, unstructured fit were fashionable for both men and women in the 80s and early 90s. Wearing sweat bands to work out was also popular, and Mark (in red) said he started wearing them because it was hot under the lights and they kept the sweat out of his eyes. They became his signature look as long as he was with Dire Straits, but he cut his hair and stopped wearing them when he went solo.

When you work with commercial bands it is important to have some expansion playing live. You have far more freedom to explore, the ultimate being blues and jazz. So here Mark and the Band can have some sophisticated fun while maintaining that pop appeal. When people love what they do it becomes infectious and results in the duty free gift for the listener.😎

Mark Knopfler wore the sweat band on his head and wrists because he didn't like getting sweat in his eyes or have it running down his arms. I am a 75 yr. old lady and believe he actually had naturally curling hair. Another thing to notice is that he did not use a pick to play the guitar, but his thumb and two fingers. He is self taught. This song was their first hit. They were having so much fun playing and they were such a tight group.
